Cheap Furniture in Tokyo? - 12-05-2008, 08:29 AM

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to get some cheap (second-hand?) furniture in Tokyo - bed, mattress, a couple chairs, etc. Any thoughts on where to look? Anyone have some extra stuff they're looking to get rid of? Any help is appreciated!

Thanks so much!

Robert

I got all mine for free on "big garbage day". Figure out when that is in your neighborhood and do some late-night exploring.

Also, let your neighbors know you need stuff. They're itching to get rid of their old microwaves, TVs, futons, you name it, so they can buy new ones. Disposing of large garbage items is expensive, so it saves them money to give it to you.

Mochizu motarezu -- one hand washes the other!

Also if you're in a big city, check for sayonara sales on metropolis.co.jp or the local gaijin rags.

gaijinpot classifieds or craigslist Tokyo, both sites have lots of items for sale cheap, or even for free. Look hard enough and you'll also find numbers of people who will move or deliver it for you.
