JP post office account - transferring money - 10-29-2008, 12:27 AM

hi everyone
I have a Japanese Post Office account that I opened in 1993. (I lived in Japan from 1992-1995)
I returned to Japan for a short trip in 2000 and was able to use it. Since then i haven't been back to Japan but presume the account is still valid. I have the passbook, card and my hanko.

Now, I want to transfer the money from that Japanese PO account to a bank account in Australia.
what would be the best way to do this?
I am thinking of writing (in English) to the Post Office HQ in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo asking them to do this transaction
or is there a Japanese PO representative here in Australia?

Thanking for any help you could give me in this matter

regards

I wouldn't be surprised if they suspected fraud. My advice would be to contact them and simply ask what is the procedure for closing an account from a foreign country rather than saying "my name is such and such give me my money."
