Moving inside of Japan - 11-20-2008, 08:48 AM

Hi everyone - I will be moving from Fukushima to Tokyo at the end of the year, and I was wondering if anyone has experience / information about the cheapest way of moving within Japan?

I don't want to rent an expensive moving van for the day, because I only have a few things to move - some chairs, air conditioner, table, etc. but it's too much for a car or the train.

Any thoughts? I would really appreciate any suggestions.

Cheers!

Can you mail it to your future address? I guess that might not be cheap, but its the only other alternative I could think of.

I suggest that you consult your local Kuroneko Yamato or any other forwarders.

Most moving services offer a small package service. It`s usually a large crate which they bring to your place, and pick up the following day (or if your stuff is already boxed and ready, just pack it in then). It is usually delivered by freight to your new address. The prices are usually quite fair, and it`s good for small moves.

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.

You could rent a car for just a day. They are fairly cheap, and driving in Tokyo is not that bad if you have patience. Of course it will take you about 5 hours and about 4,000 yen in tolls just to get there.

Yeah, shipping is the best option.
