Here's a map of the regions.

The Kinki region is also called Kansai.

CHUBU!!!

I've always wanted to live in Akita, but Kanto or Nagoya would be my second choices. I find the Kansai dialect confusing, though.

If my Japanese confuses you, if you don't undestand, you are always free to correct my grammar.

Kansai is the best region for historical culture and religion, and that's what's most interesting, I think.

Kyoto, Osaka, and Nagoya - all in one region? Definitely the best.

Nope. Nagoya isn't considered to be a part of Kansai. Take it from a native Nagoyan.

o_o you're kidding, right?

dang. Well, that makes kansai a little less the best. It's still the best, though.
(I assumed it was part of kansai because a university in the area said students ought to use KIX airport to get there.)

Nagoya is just closer to KIX than it is to NRT, so it's a better choice if you aren't flying straight into Centrair. Nagoya is part of the 'Chubu' (中部) region, FYI.

KIX for Nagoya? Not a natural choice for anyone! That would require so much land traveling. Nagoya has a huge international airport of its own - NGO.

EDIT: Beaten by the other Nagoya-jin....

Right now, having never been to japan, I would say Okinawa. Why? There's a girl from Okinawa in my University and the way she describes it, definitely makes me want to go there.
