The more information you give, the more help you will get.

1) Where are you going in Japan?

2) In what capacity (student, worker)?

3) Are you living in an apartment, homestay, dormitory?

4) Will you have access to a kitchen?

Start with answering these questions, and you can get some good help.

So you are a student who will live in Tokyo. I don't know where you are from, so I don't know how expensive you will think it is. Moscow and New York are probably more expensive.

Tokyo can be expensive, but if you are careful with your budgeting you will be fine.

You need to talk to your school. Students shouldn't be paying "key money".

Your living expenses should be well below 180,000 a month, even in Tokyo.

Yeah, I would recommend living in a 'Gaijin House'
If you need some more info about some good Gaijin houses let me know. I know one where the first 2 months rent are half price
180,000 is fine to live on if you live a little carefully. To be honest, food is not so expensive here, and most house hold things can be bought in the 100yen shop.
