Does anyone know where I can find really hardcore technical information about smart cards?. I'm doing a report for the company I'm working for so it's kinda important.

I hope these remain rumors. This would be a terrible invasion of privacy. What really concerns me is that they could be generally trackable. I don't mind carrying the card, and I don't mind reporting my whereabouts to the city office at designated times, but I object to being under surrveillence.

Although this should go without saying, I object to any country spying on its legal residents.

The QR code on the RC is just the numerical ID for the card. When read by a government system it will call up your record without the need to type in information.
When you enter the country you offer your dabs and mugshot. These are then linked to your records when you apply for your RC and visa.

The current RC is not an IC type card, although the new drivers license is IC.

The main point here is the mugshot. This can be used (like TASPO) to ID you via any camera linked to that system. In theory the police only need point a camera at your handsome face to pull your records.
