How does NHK do this? - 03-02-2010, 05:49 AM

According to this NHK press release they can now send a QR Code to a TV on an individual basis.

How do they know where a TV is located? Is there some new technology?

http://www9.nhk.or.jp/pr/marukaji/pdf_ver/259.pdf

Thank you.

It says NHK has developed a system where it can have TV-set owners to register their postal codes and other info (which the article doesn't specifically mention) within the TVs. This enables NHK to send area-specific and/or other-factors-specific QR Codes onto the screens that the viewers in turn can take into their cellphones to look at the needed local infomation.

This is about emergency info, open hospitals on holidays and such.

This technique seems to be shown by an event held on March 9 from March 7.

No charge for admission.
