Please help me understand this... - 03-17-2010, 07:37 PM

Please look at:

名刺ール

On this page I can see that you can buy 100 sheets of stickers for 1,200 yen. Is this a contribution to offset carbon? Or can you contribute in some other way?

I don't understand the details

Thank you.

As far as I can see you put them on business cards. They say they offset 1kg of co2, but I just can't see that happening off 1 sticker. That's ALOT of co2. How is a sticker meant to offset co2 anyway? Some sort of chemical they put on it to convert co2?

Yes it's confusing isn't it!

Anyone got some idea of how this works?

I would assume it is a carbon credit... As in the money you pay for them goes to something that offsets Co2 like planting trees.

Yeah, I would also say there is no indication of a scientific mechanism behind the card itself, it's all about Kyoto protocol stuff from what I gather, and makes the company that can put that little sticker on their business cards look good.. since they are doing their part to help control greenhouse gas emissions.... or whatever..

So when you buy the stickers you are actually buying carbon credits as well?

If you read their FAQ page it explains it a little more, but from I think by buying those cards you are basically investing/contributing in CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) projects (projects that help to reduce emissions in developing countries). If you wanna know more about CDM's and the Kyoto Protocol I suggest researching on wiki. That's what I did cuz I had no idea what the hect a CDM was.
