Surname question... - 05-19-2010, 01:47 PM

Hello, everyone. ^^ I am wondering about a question of Japanese surnames...
Is it strange to use "setsuna" as a surname instead of a first name in Japan? Or is it wrong? I have never lived in Japan, so it is difficult to know what the standards are over there.

I am sorry if my english is bad or is difficult to understand... I am usual speaking french...

thank you very much!

Basically that would be like using the name "Lisa" or "Sarah" or "Michelle" as a surname in an English or French-speaking country. Here, like in other countries, a given name doesn't just become a family name. The family name "Setsuna" doesn't exist, and it's unusual enough as a given name.

As above though, if you are writing something and don't want it to look 100% accurate, then you can do what you like. Many names in manga and anime are weird anyway.
