Are the opportunities for English teachers in Japan improving, or not? - 04-29-2010, 04:14 AM

I spent 2009 working as an English teacher in Tokyo, and my timing couldn't have been worse. The number of lessons available to teach in a language school dropped by nearly 50%, and it was difficult for me to make ends meet. I left at the end of 2009, but I wonder if things have improved since then, or are things still very tough?

Geos has just gone bankrupt, so things are not looking brilliant right now for the eikaiwa market. Were you by any chance working for Gaba or a similar company?

I recommend looking for a job that will pay you a fixed salary- places like Gaba are really only good if you have other sources of income as well.
