what do you like?

Tsuwabuki 07-11-2010 10:58 AM

For me? Amanohashidate. Of all of the places I have been in Japan, I find it the most relaxing and peaceful, and I try to go back whenever I can. It's amazing in all the seasons.

You live in Singapore and think Japan is expensive??
We have 1000's of Singaporeans visit the resort I work at in Hokkaido who mostly think Japan is cheap, that's why they come here! What exactly are you finding so expensive?

Back to thread topic well the best spot is obviously a very subjective thing. We all like different things. Like I wouldn't want to spend anymore time in Tokyo than I absolutely had to, I can't stand the place but of course many people love it. What sort of things do you like or want to see?

Well although I've lived here nearly 6 years I've still seen very little of Honshu, spent most of my time here in Hokkaido. Hokkaido is a very beautiful place. If you love the outdoors and nature it's hard to beat but it does lack the more ancient Japanese cultural stuff you find on Honshu as the Japanese didn't settle up here in Hokkaido until much more recently. It is an incredibly beautiful place though and I'd recommend to anyone to come here. We actually get quite a lot of people from Singapore and Hong Kong come to the resort I work at to escape the heat and humidity of SE Asia during the summer months. Lots of hot springs in the region and lots of outdoor activities.
My favourite season up here is the autumn. Nice cool nights, mild days and incredible colour in all the forests with the first dustings of snow on the mountain peaks. Simply amazing.

Hakodate is one of the cities I would like to visit on my list. I heard viewing the city from Hakodate mountain at night is one of the best in the world.

It is a great view and well worth seeing. There's actually a nice walking trail up Hakodate yama which is worth walking rather than just taking the ropeway. It's a pretty cool city too with lots of more recent Japanese history including a fair amount of foreign influences including some beautiful chruches. Goryokaku Fort is a beautiful star shaped fort in the city that saw the last battle in the Boshin War seeing the last of the shogunate fall to imperial forces. It is also the city where I own a bar :vsign:

willgoestocollege 07-12-2010 04:16 PM

How did you find the bar that you own may I ask?

A couple of foreigners owned it previously and I heard they wanted to sell it. Me and a couple of other guys bought it and completely renovated it and changed it from a mostly gaijin bar to a Japanese one. We have a Japanese guy manage the bar and a couple of other casual staff.
