Onsen Help!! -

A long while back I came across a link to a blog of someone who traveled around on a motorcycle I believe and had info. on soo many fantastic onsen. I forget the term but he had a lot of open air onsen that weren't part of resorts. This is of real interest to me as I have a large tattoo on my back and one on my arm and know that most onsen do not approve of irezumi! Plus to me a onsen in the middle of a river in the woods is much better than a resort! It's all about the scenery and can you beat an onsen overlooking the ocean or the snow covered trees!?!?! If anyone knows about this or anything like it and could post a link that would be awesome!
