please please help! apartment in kanazawa. - 08-03-2010, 02:05 PM

Hey,

I'm moving to Kanazawa in roughly 6 weeks to go to uni there, and my boyfriend is coming with me. I really need to start looking at places and get a rough idea of prices but I can't seem to find any.

I need something near the university, with hopefully enough room for people to visit, maybe a second room?
I can't understand any of the websites to see how close places are and there seems to be many different prices.

Also most places seem to be unfurnished?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! x

Didn't the university offer any sort of campus?

I think you mean housing.

Did you contact the University?

Unfortunately, most apartments in Japan are unfurnished, except college dormitories.

Thanks for the replies.

Yea, they have a place called the I-house but it's only for students so my boyfriend can't stay there.

I've been looking at a website called Leopalace21 but it's really confusing.

That's when I would have said "adios" to the boyfriend.

Information I could have used yesterday.

You might have a hard time finding an apartment that will rent to an unmarried couple. I believe it is a fairly new concept.

You are going next month, right? Where are you going to live?

my recommendation would to have a chat with the uni to see if they can help you, as already suggested by MMM.

secondly, if your boyfriend will work in japan, perhaps the company he works for can help. if he won't work so be it.

the third alternative would be to start living separately in the housing provided by the uni, and then when you have arrived start looking for something else.

although it is possible to find and get access to a flat in japan within a couple of minutes, i am not certain that this applies to you for a number of reasons. you are a student, you are foreign, and perhaps the most important thing, you are not present physically yourself nor does it seem that you have a proxy.

good luck.

here are some of the more common sites for flats in japan, all in japanese though as far as i know.

What's the confusing part of the Leopalace? it is fairly easy to navigate compared to the normal japanese real estate.

Since it is out of Tokyo, Leopalace there would be fairly cheaper and bigger to a normal japanese apartment.
