Decent Online Map for Directions in Japan?

Hello, first post here!

I'm moving to Tokyo from next March to attend an art school there, and I'm totally excited. I'm fluent, and I'm not a stranger to the country or culture.

However, I've never spent much time in Tokyo. This summer, I went to visit for a week and I had the hardest time getting around because Google Maps was giving me these awfully complicated directions...

Is there a better online map source for Japan?

I have found that Google maps gives quite good directions in Japan.

Perhaps they use a different system for it if you are using the non-Japanese version. Does maps.google.co.jp give the same directions as maps.google.com?

Mapion.co.jp is a good map site for Japan but I'm not sure if they give directions like google maps does.
