Retiring/moving to Japan - 03-24-2014, 04:05 PM

Hi,

I'm a retired U.S. Federal employee (non-military) wondering if I can find doctors, pharmacies, and hospitals in Japan that will accept my (Federal Employee Health Benefit) FEHB health insurance. If so, which health plans are you using in Japan?

If the answer is no (U.S. health plans are not accepted), does anyone know of a national health plan that might cover someone with a pre-existing medical condition?

If the answer is no again, then I'll likely have to maintain a residence in the U.S., and travel to and from Japan a couple times each year. Not a bad option, but it will cost me more to maintain two homes.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help or recommendations you may be able to provide!
Harold
