Best pay as you go SIM card? - 02-22-2018, 09:29 AM

I am visiting Japan for 2 weeks and want to get a local pay as you go SIM card for voice and data calls. I know only Reaidents can buy SIM cards so I plan to ask a person I know there to get me one.
Before I asked I wanted to know if that kind of product is standard as in the Uk. I cheap no commitment sim you can use and discard / keep / use again a few year’s later?
Doing a google search naturally directs me to info for new arrivals / tourists and sim hire options. Hoping I can go local and get something a bit cheaper.
Thanks for any help

I assume you've already had your trip, but for other people who found this by Googling, I recommend renting a pocket-wifi!
The cost is about the same, sometimes cheaper, and there is no hassle with getting it to work with your phone.
Most airports have stalls now where you can pick-up & drop-off.
