Oh that's right, you were the same mix as me. Was it your mum who's Japanese?

I know what you mean... but you can't really be "half Australian".

You're either Australian (and something else of course) or not.

Australian is not really a nationality defined by geneology.

Dad's the Japanese one, it's a bit of an unusual case haha.

Edit: I know it says "Half English" in my profile but that's just for simplification. I think there's some German and Irish in there somewhere.

Australian nationality doesn't work like that. You are Australian AND Japanese as opposed to "half Australian and half Japanese".

Since Japanese nationality is based on Geneology though, I suppose from their perspective you'd be half Australian and half Japanese. Though the Japanese perspective can't accomodate the Australian one whereas the Australian perspective can accomodate the Japanese one.

(In other words, from the Australian perspective you are Australian because you have Australian citizenship and you are Japanese because you identify with your Japanese roots)

I think I get what you're saying. There's some confusion with this thread because the OP accidently asked the nationality of people when the OP meant racial (and ethnic) mixes.

It seems that, to the general public, if you say "Australian" or "American", you're refering to a white person (even though one is not synonymous with the other)
