Does "Looking for Friends" actually work?

I am just curious, but am wondering if people have had success by posting "Looking for friends" ad.

Have you made a friend? Have you ever gotten to actually speak with or meet them?

I am hoping there are some success stories!

Laurel and me are good friends (met\ hung out together\ exchange gifts\ email etc), and we met through this thread, so I would say it does.
