I know how you feel, its hard for me to find someone here at college with the same passion for baroque music as I do. But I'll keep trying

English Baroque - 03-12-2008, 03:20 AM

I love the Italian masters, but they are not the only masters of the Baroque period. So I give you a few examples from England, and one of her most favored sons.

Henry Purcell 1659-1695
Purcell is buried adjacent to the organ in Westminster Abbey. His epitaph reads, "Here lyes Henry Purcell Esq., who left this life and is gone to that blessed place where only his harmony can be exceeded."

Funeral March for Queen Mary II
(also known as the theme from "A Clockwork Orange")

Here are links to a few more of his works.
More Queen Mary for the fans!

Now that's ironic, usually there are some who actually like (or love) Baroque music.

To ease your suffering, here are some pieces that reflect our frustration:

YouTube - Cruda sorte, avverso fato! - Bajazet

YouTube - Bajazet:Svena, uccidi, abbatti, atterra

YouTube - David Daniels canta "Longe mala, umbrae, terrores".

and my personal favorite!!

YouTube - Cecilia Bartoli - Un pensiero nemico di pace

Watch, enjoy, and contemplate life my dear viewers

Yeah I know, when I first got back to liking Baroque music after a four year hiatus, I felt a little put off, but at the same time attracted. The music I put up are pieces no one usually is familiar with and therefore unbiased comments would likely show up.

I don't know, correct me if I'm misguided

YouTube - Vivaldi - Cello Concerto in G Minor RV416 - Mov. 1/3

YouTube - Georg Philipp Telemann - Tafelmusik (parts)

and YouTube - Vanessa Mae - The Devil's Trill

A little much but worth to listen and learn from
