You're amazing, I've been drawing on and off (no prior learning) for around 10 years as well, though it's been reeeallly on and off.

I will study this form and practice it tonight and show you what I can create from it! Thank you!
haha thanks. Glad I could help.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Hey TheLastFortnight, decided to color it too lol.

Pretty interesting colors you chose btw. Tertiary colors like that aren't really used very often in characters for some reason. Primary colors are more common.

anyways, decided to try cell shading, I haven't done that in ages.

cell shading isn't really my thing... lol, it turned out okay tho imo.
once again I have to say, great design. I had fun drawing her.

I Friggin love the design of the executioner. It's awesome man, There is only one thing design wise that I would change: The belt buckle.

As far as I can tell from this picture it looks like it doesn't actually do anything, In fact, I don't even know if it is a belt buckle. If you wanted it to be functional, it would look like what I drew there.

About the drawing itself, there really isn't that much wrong with it, just a few things. As you can see, it's a little bit tilted, so that needs to be straightened up. and really, the only big problem with the actual drawing is the pose. look at it, you can draw one straight line directly through her, that's a sign of a boring pose. You want it to be more dynamic, especially with an awesome character like that, she should be doing something other than standing around!
Thanks for all the tips! You're right, haha. Damn, I didn't notice the belt buckle was completely wrong! And you're right about the pose, it is boring, since it was just to show the design and colours and it wasn't an action scene, still you're right about that. As for the perspective, I guess it was one of the reasons why I gave up on my mangaka career lol.

Talking about perspective, here's an old drawing, I hate to draw the backgrounds, it took me hours just to do this simple sketch:

It's great, I think I'm the only one here who doesn't use any kind of software or application on the drawings, but damn if I had money to pay for them...

I had another question: I don't really know how to ink too well, drawing with straight pencil. What kind of pen should I use to get those manga-like lines?
After the pencil sketches it will go, first, for the lines: nib pens + drawing ink (Indian Ink); second, for the big black areas: brushes + drawing ink and for last the screentones!

Nib pen is something like this:

I have some of those pens, but my ink already passed the sell-by date, haha.

haha, you just need to practice perspective more man. Never give up!

Did you use vanishing points here? as you can see, most of your lines are going off in random directions. Maybe your vanishing points were off the page and you had to guess??

you have to make sure everything lines up to those two specific points (for 2 point perspective)

I'm pretty sure most people here who use photoshop didn't actually buy it...
Anyways... there are many free applications out there that are quite good.

Check out GIMP. It's a really popular program for the kinda stuff you seem to do.

Yeah, I did. Actually, it was based on a photo, and you're right, they went off the page, very off indeed, so I used two extra pages aside the one where I was drawing. It's because it would be impossible to draw like it was on the picture if the points were too close to each other, it creates a big distortion and I was trying to make it the closer possible to the picture. Anyway, thanks again for the trouble!

That's really awesome RKutagawa. I already like your version.
Yeah I've toyed with the idea of getting back into art as a past time activity and decided that I'll give digital art a try when I do. The mess from charcoal is a bit tedious to clean up.

Thanks for the edit on the picture. It looks great and I'll start working on perspectives and angles when I get back into it. =)

Hey manganimefan! glad to see you here.

When I look at this picture I get the feeling that the character is flat. Ever play the game paper mario? That's kinda what I mean.

I get the feeling that if the character raised it's arm it would look like paper like that.

See those lines I drew across the last two pictures? Try to imagine those while you're drawing. You want the lines to curve around the body, try your best to make it look like it has thickness, and mass.

I think you should start more basic though. try drawing simple shapes right now. draw cylinders and cubes and spheres. But draw 3d ones, not 2d.
Like this:

I highly recommend drawing stuff like this on a regular basis. It will help you to draw more realistic people.
