Japan Pictures - 07-24-2009, 01:21 AM

I took these pictures last week while out walking around the local shrine. I decided to leave my digital camera at home, and I took these with an old Canon F1 35mm camera. I developed the film in my kitchen and used a film scanner to upload them to my pc.

Main Shrine, Canon F1, 24mm 2.8 FD lens

Cemetery walkway, Canon F1, 55mm 1.2 FD lens

Old grave site, Canon F1, 55mm 1.2 FD lens

Wooden wall, Canon F1, 50mm 1.4 FD lens

Shrine Bell, Canon F1, 50mm 1.4 FD lens

Fence, Canon F1, 55mm 1.2 FD lens

Shot of park using infrared film, Canon F1, 50mm 1.4 FD lens, Rollie IR400 film

Just joined the forum today and came across your photos as I was browsing through the various posts. Where were these photos taken (city, prefecture?) they are beautiful. You have a good artistic eye and I like the graininess of the black and white. Good choice.

I was in Nagano recently and captured these shots on my digital. It wasn't a very good quality camera unfortunately. I have recently upgraded to a Nikon which I would love to take for a test drive next time I am in Japan.

Hope you enjoy the photos!

Japan Images: Ueno By Night - 11-12-2009, 03:11 AM

These images were taken around the main Ueno train station and along Ameyako in Ueno, Tokyo. It was my first time out for a night shoot with my new (at the time) Canon 5D Mark II and I wanted to test mainly the way it handled high ISO. Shots at 1600 were really clear and even as high as 3200.

The lens was a Canon 70-200mm 2.8 IS USM - nice, fast lens to keep the ISO down and still get a reasonable shot when needed.

i refuse to believe that any of those were shot @ anything higher than 800.. there is just no noticeable noise whatsoever... although, it is full frame.. but still.. that is almost leica quality
i am also impressed @ how little light falloff there was @ low aperture ... i know canon makes really crappy low end lenses, but their higher end stuff is amazing
