How do you deal with a japanese boyfriend/husband? - 02-15-2011, 06:53 PM

Anyway, I have many misconceptions about japanese romantic relationships as I myself am Chinese and live in Canada, such as the male being very dominant, cheats on his wife and wants them to serve him, etc. So people who have dated japanese men, is it how it really is?

its like dating a man in general. they are all different. some are jerkie, some are weak, some are nice, some are strong personality.

men are all different in the end.

i am with a korean now, but aside from him, my first relationship that was with a japanese boy was very fufillling emotionally for awhile..just distance

i am happy now with my boy, and he's not like other koreans either.

I see, but they always say that the japanese men are the dominant type though.

The problem is that in any nationality or culture the men will vary from individual to individual. In your culture are any two men exactly the same? Are all Americans going to respond in the same way to a question? Are all Indians going to react in the same way to a specific situation? You can ask what Japanese men are like and you'll never get anything more than a crash generalisation that only serves to paint a variety of individuals in the same unfair light. Even if you could label all of a nationality with the same term those people would still vary from prefecture to prefecture, age to age, and so forth. . .

Long story short 'they' may 'say' a lot of things, but you'll just have to meet people for yourself and come to your own conclusions, because it's the only way to find out how a person is.

Ha! That's a new one. Most girls come on here stereotyping Japanese guys as spineless push-overs.

spineless pushovers? I probably read too much shojo manga or watch too many animes that portray the japanese men as the dominant/possessive type... in japanese anime, they stereotype the men a lot...

Yeah, probably best not to take anime and manga too seriously. The bulk of Hollywood films make American men out to be super-masculine heroes. Reality is that not every American man is (or indeed wants to be) Brad Pitt. I'm always amazed when people try to tell me British men are more gentile and noble than other nationalities. I'm always thinking "Ooh, you've clearly never been through Swindon train-station on a Friday night."

Try finding Shakugan no Shana anime, that will change the view a bit.
