What happened to Japan Forum?

JF used to be a great site, full of open minded people. (well. a lot more than what it is now)

it used to be a lot of fun to wander around in here.

post pictures. share things that interest you.

people had a sense of humour.

now.

General Discussion.

define General Discussion.

Wait. Define the word "General"

yeah. exactly.

the meaning is endless. the possibilities of the General section should be endless.

however i understand this can cause some chaos. as there are people out there who abuse the term general.

however i do find the rules. f**king ridiculous.

it says there "talk about anything you want, japanese related or not"

mhm. gotcha.

4.5 General Discussion is for threads that don't fit into any of the other categories. HOWEVER that does not mean that any topic is appropriate for General Discussion. Along with following the above rules, General Discussion threads should be
1) Relevant and inclusive to a majority of JF users
and/or
2) Timely and current (i.e. related to upcoming holidays, news or events).
and/or
3) Japan/Asia related

work with me here. I've been here for a few years now. (obviously not under this account)

I wasn't bored. I made a "funny pictures" thread.
almost every forum i've been to has one of these threads in their general section.
it's just a place where you post funny pictures, to share a bit of humour. a place where members can go into to have a laugh.
right. it fitted the "Introduce yourself and talk about anything you want here, Japanese-related or not."
and it is "general".

where's the fun anymore?

what the hell.
this isn't the JF i know.
guys it's a f**king forum. you're running a forum, not a freaking country.

I agree. General Discussion should be really "general", it was the admin intention, that's why the front page still remains unchanged, I don't know what gives a mod the right to change the focus of an entire section, a mod should moderate and that's about it.

Even though it's a forum about Japan most people here aren't Japanese and I am sure that people come here mostly to have fun and because they love the community, we just can't talk about Japan all the time and the forum should reflect the will of its community. That's my opinion.

Facer had serious issues FYI. And it was reopened. I totally agree with the mods in that case.

As for those rules you said, I've had millions of PMs with MMM about them.

They say and/or which means if your topic is related to one of the rules it's legit. however mods tend to remove the 'or' part and close the thread if it breaks one of those rules.

In other words 'and/or' can be used by mods however they like.

Well, first of all, welcome back Crimson. You've been gone from these boards for how long? At least a year I'd say, now correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure you been gone for a very long time...

Those rules have been in affect since around this time last year.

Why is it that your first visit back to the forum the first thing you do is post a complaint thread?

Wouldn't you have just taken it up with the mods yourself?

The piece about General that says "discuss anything here Japan related or not" has been changed. Since the Admin is not active, which you know already, cannot be re-written. No one holds a Admin account that can re content over again.

What gives us the right to change a focus of a section? We should only moderate? You all know that the Administration of the forum is non-existent, so we had to step in, and we have become the Admin. Would you just rather us leave everything on the forum? The Admin didn't even have any rules posted, anything negative or positive was being allowed. To help with the order of things, and to try and make everything run smoothly, we the Mods, created a set of rules.

There is no one above us active on this site, you we are trying to pick up in his absence.

You're asking where the fun is, but yet you haven't been around to enjoy the fun of the forum now.

You are just associating the rules with how they used to be, without any attempt on adjusting. Why don't you check out how things are now before making negative remarks?

as far as I know , I regesterd around the year 2007 Japan forum .. Because I belived that japan forum is an Intersted forum and I still do.

Look at the bigger picture man! ^_^

It all started with my 'hottest actress thread'. Since then every disagreement with mods have been publicly posted.

Even if you still disagree with the mods opinion even after PM they aren't gonna do much. Publicly posting makes everybody involved.

I agree it seems a lot stricter but i remember when you would open at least one thread a weed with porn and other unecessary stuff.
