Well I think that the option of not showing any information about yourself should be considered too, but who would wanna lie about their gender...? If it is optional then yes i mean if you don't want to you don't have to but, i don't like to be wrong so i don't like to call someone something there not cause i get mad if someone calls me something i'm not.

As some people are gender-bending with their avatar or nick it would be useful in understanding someones point of view, not to mention I have on a couple of occassions called a guy a girl (never the other way round) And being hit on is a cross I'll just have to bear

Look, people lie about their gender now. Just the same as if we had gender status or not, making a gender thing would help since the lyers would still lie, their numbers don't increase or anything, but there will be people who won't lie and state their real gender.

Either way, if you put gender things on the forum you lose out on nothing. Wow so? The lyers will lie about their gender, don't they already do that anyway?
