I'd say it's because seafood isn't part of the typical American diet; Americans mostly stick to red meat, potatoes, and... uhh... yeah, I honestly don't know much about a typical American diet since I've never actually spent time in the heart of America, or been surrounded by genuine 'Americans' (basically all of my friends are immigrants, or the offspring of immigrants). The point is, aside from whatever's served at Red Lobster or whatever those fastfood seafood buffet places are called, Americans aren't exposed to much fish or food that was formerly sealife.
Besides that, some people (especially those who've lived surrounded by one particular race or culture their entire lives) are just close-minded towards new things.
