Tiny kitchens are the norm for pretty much all single room apartments in Japan. Even large kitchens will come with only a 3 burner stove and a fish broiler. Single people do not cook in Japan, as a rule.

Fast food is a way of life here, even in small towns young people will buy prepared meals at the local convenience or grocery store. The usual is the typical Obento box lunch. God knows I eat these things at least 5 times a week.
