What are the most hard-to-understand animes

In my opinion , Serial Experiment Lain , Paranoia Agent , and Ghost Hound. But I love these three lol.

Powermad147 12-12-2007 05:25 AM

Neon Genesis Evangelion, Paranoia agent, and...maybe...Saikano?

Katchan6 12-12-2007 05:32 AM

death note coz i was watching it in japanese :D

Haggis 12-12-2007 11:05 AM

Boogiepop Phantom
Don't be put off the anime because it doesn't make sense. Watch the live action film, read the manga, listen to the commentaries and then watch it again. It's worth it, it's a great show.

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
I didn't understand it all but it's not a film I'm bothered about. Looks more like a computer game than an anime.

phishn37 12-12-2007 12:44 PM

I would say for me (I don't watch a lot of confusing anime) it would be Death Note. Or FMA maybe, just becuase I accidentally skipped four episodes so I had to go back and figure stuff out and it didn't make sense for a while. But that's my problem, not the anime's!

Eiri 12-12-2007 01:41 PM

well when I first started watching Noein (when sci-fi had on at 11pm) I was kinda confused and was trying to make sense of it with in the first 3 to 4 episodes but after watching 12 of them Im getting a picture togother on whats the main point of the hole thing but Im still trying to figure some things out

Shiningmonkey 12-12-2007 08:26 PM

Yeah, paranoia agent is very confusing.

Haha, that might do it!!

I agree with Paranoia Agent being confusing...I loved it, but I barely got it at all.

ILOVEJAPAN 12-13-2007 04:01 AM

With stuff like Paranoia Agent, and Serial Experiment Lain you just have to be able to destinguish which part's of the plot to pay attention to, and which to disregard because the writer was stoned out of there mind when writing it.

The most important thing is not to think about it to hard, and not try to make sence of everything because some of it just dosent make sence.

Wagamama 12-13-2007 04:36 AM

Fooly Cooly,Everything was just so whacked & wild,If there was a deeper meaning to it,i couldn't get it

pyro8907 12-13-2007 05:00 AM

I would say Tokyo Majin Gackuen is hard to follow but it still owns as a show. That's all I'm going to contribute. :vsign:

DragonShade 12-13-2007 05:54 AM

I am surprised nobody mentioned Higurashi no naku koro ni . but I think Death Note is pretty easy to understand lol

emiluvsjmusic 12-13-2007 08:00 AM

the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya in the original order -__-

Katchan6 12-13-2007 10:39 AM

^only at the beginning...

ivi0nk3y 12-13-2007 12:51 PM

Definitely NGE and FL CL. They're from the same director so no surprise there :o

Yah i agree Fooly Cooly was one weird anime. Suzumiya haruhi was hard to understand in the beginning cuz you know all the episodes are mixed up together, but after watching it again i got the idea and i think it is more preferable watching it in the chronological order.

Why , I prefer Chronological order , I dont see what's the point of mixing up the orders lol , dont see any deep meaning to it lol

ajsnoopy 12-14-2007 04:07 AM

I read 1 and 2 of FLCL and I think my face stayed @_@ the entire time. And I agree about NGE; ya miss 5 minutes of the show or movie and the storyline is thrown off, lol

Boogiepop Phantom was kinda difficult to understand, but it wasn't that interesting to me, o well

Haggis 12-16-2007 12:54 AM

Here's a quote from Wikipedia:

Quote:

Boogiepop Phantom is a story that primarily deals with change and how perceptions change as people grow older.
I agree with that entirely, to me it's all about growing old... maybe if you watched it again when you're 30 you'd see it differently. Anyway for people who've not seen it here's some scenes on YouTube

YouTube - Boogiepop Phantom - Stairway to Heaven

Finally, if you're not into Boogiepop Phantom don't bother to read this as it's pretty lengthy, but if you're into it, this'll really does make you think about the series:

Anime on DVD

Cloverella 12-16-2007 01:32 AM

Yess. FLCL was just whacked. I had no idea what was going on for more than half of the series. @___@

I remember watching the Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi, and I didn't know that it was out of order. So I watched the first few episodes and then on one episode, Itsuki popped out of nowhere and acted as if he'd been there the entire time. I was so confused that I tried watching the previous episode and then went back to that episode and then back two episodes to see if I'd missed something X___X;

Di Gi Charat was confusing. Funny, but confusing. I don't know if you can even classify it as a proper series >___<

In the mixed up order it is cooler and much more interesting, you know you need to work up your mind, its like your watching a certain episode then something happens in that and then you need to think back in the older episodes to get the idea.

same thing was happening here for FLCl but after watching it twice something got into my head :mtongue: at least.

The original version of haruhi suzumiya (japanese) is in the mixed up order and the dub version is in the chronological order. If you want to watch it in the chronological order here it is : episodes 2, 3, 5, 10, 13, 14, 4, 7, 6, 8, 1, 12, 11, 9.

I mean it's not a detective or suspense anime like HIgurashi , they dont have to do that for its a school comedy lol

Trust me, the anime is much better than the manga...Seriously, what was WRONG with that manga!? 0_o The ending was totally screwed up >.>

ajsnoopy 12-17-2007 04:36 AM

yeah, it seems I'll have to check out the anime. From what you and fara have said, the anime explains the storyline MUCH better than the manga.

*heads off to check out FLCL anime*

ILOVEJAPAN 12-18-2007 03:35 AM

I personaly am I bigger manga person than I am an anime person. I think anyone who is looking for stories with more mature plot lines, and more detailed art will have an easier time finding it in manga than in anime.
