Disturbing genius?

Have you ever watched an anime that was good/very well made, but also very disturbing? Not even technically confusing, but maybe just really violent, or overly-vulgar? And then there are those that are extremely vioent, and disturbing, but have an aura about them that makes you feel there is something behind the violence...For example, Evangelion, Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal, Elfen Lied, etc. If so, share them here! They seem to be my kind of anime, when I look back on my list of shows...

DragonShade 12-15-2007 02:06 AM

How about
HIgurashi no Naku koro ni +kai (it's sick when those people reach lv3 or 5 dont rememer)
Gantz (Twisted and bloody)
Koi Kaze (Romance story...but incest)
Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro Chan (Excessive gore +comedy)
Baccano! (Gore)

Also check out the opening of Tsukuyomi moon phase , most disturbing op of all time. XD

Baccano! looked good, but I never did start it...What did you mean by "When those people reach lv3?" Are there Levels in that show? 0_o

Cloverella 12-15-2007 02:23 AM

MMm... I agree. Baccano was just full of gore, but I still liked watching it anyways. The flipping of time frames was interesting too.

Claymore had a bit more gore than normal violent animes (like heads flying off and half of peoples' bodies everywhere) but it wasn't too bad. The violence was definitely needed for the storyline, and it was great (though I haven't read the manga)

I watched the first episode of Shigurui... which put me off it because it was quite gory and the storyline didn't even capture my attention either. >.>

Narutaru... ugh.. worst thing I could've ever watched. It was just twisted and wrong. It started off really cute and I thought it was shoujo-ish, and then it got a bit weird. By the end of it, it was just gory and highly disturbing. I wish I had never watched it in the first place. :|

I'm sure there were a lot more in my head, but those are just afew off the top of my head.

Baccano! is really good~ one of the best in 2007

Level is to describe the degree of a disease in the anime~ hehe. It's like metal illness. I can't give anymore spoiler lol . Btw I am a cult fan of Higurashi no Naku koro ni~

Claymore is pretty good but strayed from the manga too far
I watched the first ep of Shigurui too. It looks good to me

Maybe if you're into test-tube rape or the ripping/mangilation of someone's genitals.

Of course not , that would be Hentai ...

Riccardo 12-15-2007 08:40 PM

Gantz and Elfen Leid are probably the two most disturbing, overly-violent series I've seen. Afro Samurai came close to that, I suppose.

Not a fan of gore for the sake of it, so I tend to avoid those sort of series.

Haggis 12-16-2007 12:16 AM

The Narutaru Anime is only half of the Manga story. It gets much, much worse. So if anyone has any Narutaru stuff that I'm after please PM me and let me know where I can get it from.

I bought Super Manga Blast right up to the final episode, I then managed to buy volume 10 of Narutaru in a Tokyo Bookshop (and got a rough translation off the internet). Have volume 11 & 12 in Japanese with bad translations, can't work out quite what the hell is happening, need a good scanlation, as most people do. God this series is so frustrating!

Well, it was one sick anime, I've tried to block it out, but I'm pretty sure it really did happen. It was disturbing. Very disturbing.

Yeah, and to Haggis' comment, I dare not read the manga >.> When I told someone about my disliking of Narutaru, she too said that the manga was so much worse D:

You would never have guessed that it was that kind of anime though. The starting theme is so happy/jolly/cute and the start of the anime was perfectly normal. T____T 4 Y THEY DO THAT?! I feel sorry for anybody who let kids watch it, thinking it was a kids show, because that's what I thought it had been. ;__;

I just finnished Narutaru , there's no gore , they use implication instead of showing it. I think Narutaru is very good for a Psychological/Horror anime for it discuss so many problems still exist in society and the sanity of those teens

Cloverella 12-16-2007 02:40 AM

Sure a lot of the time they didn't show the actual gruesomeness, but you have to remember that I watched this when I was like... 10 >.>

I grabbed this straight off wikipedia:

"The anime broadcast was in 2003 on the Japanese television station Kids Station." <_<;;

"The manga, especially the original Japanese versions, contains gruesome material and images particularly towards its later volumes. Despite the young main characters, cute aliens, and initial look of a shōjo or magical girl series, the story quickly transforms into one filled with very graphic sexual and violent themes. The English-language [1] and German-language [2] versions of the manga have some edited scenes; entire pages of content were removed from the English-language version of the manga."

Why did it have to be so misleading? If it was that bad, why would they broadcast it on a Kid's channel?

But yeah, regardless it all depends on peoples' tastes on anime series. It just so happened to deter me, but that doesn't mean that other people can't enjoy the series. u_u;

shoujobeat 12-16-2007 06:23 PM

Elfen Lied and Negim magiter magi**I don't know how to spell it** but oh god was elfen Lied bloody crazy I first saw Nu/lucy and thought Oh wow what a cute girl with the whole ears and pink hair*love pink* and then I first see this crazy bloody gore scene and she was butt naked!!

Also Negima almost every Volume some one got naked or got they're clothes blown of, or end up in inapporate positions with each other:eek: .

but over all I enjoyed both series, and wished Elfen lied had more epsoides:marusmile:

That girl in the that pic is really beautiful I'm so cheaking out that anime**total weakness to cute/pretty things**

Ok, never try NaruTaru...>.> I've recently started Clannad and Sola, both of which are very good...Hmm...Gantz sounded ok, and maybe (some day xD) I will try NaruTaru.

You know whats a fun way to prove to your friends that Anime isn't for children? Show them Akira...xD Also, if anyone is wondering why I loved Elfen Lied so much, it is because it presents moral issues (what defines us as humans?) as well as being a sad, romantic tale. Thus, my perfect anime trump card for my liking =P.

Elfen Lied is my 4th. Kanon 2006=1st , Monster=2nd , Higurashi =3rd HAHA

Havent watched Clannad yet , but keep dling it. Gotta wait for it to finish. And I think all Key's stories are sad.

Good choices :vsign: . I'm big on romances...If you liked Kanon, try Clannad, Ef- a tale of memories, and and Air...All the same basic idea, only Air was seriously depressing u_u. I liked Kanon alot because it was the first show ever to make me cry...(Makoto T_T)

We have similar taste in shows! xD Have you seen Hantsuki? It's english name is "Looking up at the half moon!" and Hantsuki is an abreviation =P. It's my favorite romance of all time!

ILOVEJAPAN 12-18-2007 03:27 AM

Higurashi and Elfen Lied are way up there on my favorite anime/manga list. And the way you guys talk about NaruTaru REALLY makes me want to read/watch it.

I love gory anime and manga! Hellsing is amazingly excesive in violants, Koroshiya Ichi (ichi the killer) episode 0 is descusting but if you want a good gross out...Midori is also reallly groteque at times...Umm...School Days isn't realy gory until the last episode but once it reaches that point it get's pretty gruesome.

But I think manga is usualy a lot more violant. Like the works of Suehiro Maruo, Hideo Yamamoto, Shintaro Kago Junji Ito, Henmaru Machino, (just to list a few mangaka off the top of my head) are all VERY violant.

If anyone has any recomendations for anything bloody I would love to hear them.

criminalpanda 12-19-2007 01:31 AM

the english dub of ghost stories was amazing beacause of the things that they would say!
the cursing and vulgar comments
i was like whoa!!!!

Powermad147 12-20-2007 01:37 AM

I've got another one to add....School Days. OH. MY. GOD. That wasn't even genius...it was just a totaly fucked up ending. I mean my god, i don't care how sick and disturbed the main character was. That was HORRIBLE!!! I'll never look at anime the same again, I swear it...

Maku 12-20-2007 01:42 AM

Elfen Lied and Higurashi are very twisted, but very entertaining and, for me at least, thoroughly amusing.

Amusing? Thats mean, i loved Elfen Lied T_T Watch the last episode of School days...now THATS disturbing. Don't even bother with the begining, the end is sick enough 0_0

Maku 12-20-2007 01:50 AM

It's not mean, I just find shameless anime violence highly amusing.

Hmmm...I suppose it WAS shameless...>.> But I still think it was a great story (don't laugh at me, I like romance and things that make me question my morals, and it had both =P). Anyhow, if you find that funny, watch Berserk xD

Maku 12-20-2007 02:00 AM

Berserk is amazing!
Don't get me wrong, I did also enjoy the story of Elfen Lied, though the 'hidden episode' of it was just plain lame in all honesty.
But the violence is why Elfen Lied is so recognised.

animeomarguy 12-20-2007 02:04 AM

Hiya :3
Furry....like a cat, a lion, a tiger...a domokun:D
I imagine you like a bunny....that gives out lots of hugs lol

I actually hate School days, not because its gruesome ending. I hate that dude, his the biggest jerk! When she was stabbed him, I was like yea killed that jerk!!
I have seen Sola, it's just average for me though. Ef is the best romance of the year I think. Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun is on my watch list. Havent watched it yet ~haha. Still Key's stories (Kanon, air , clannad) are the best XD
