Favorite horror anime

I figured since there wasn't already a post about this, I'd start one. Also, I wanna find some more gruesome/weird/scary anime to watch ;P

My favorite would have to be Elfen Lied. I just started watching Shigurui, pretty badass so far.

DragonShade 01-12-2008 07:35 AM

definitely Higurashi no Naku Koro ni ,and that's all I know
oh, and the final two eps of Narutaru

sTr0mTod 01-12-2008 09:33 AM

I think its "La Portrait de Petit Cossette" because its so psycho xD

I second the Higurashi recomendation.

Oh and about Narutaru, is there much gore in it? I heard there was, but then I watched some AMV's and there didn't seem to be anything esspecialy violant in it...

Ok, lets see I don't know if you would call Serial Expirement Lain, or Paranoia Agent "horror" but they get really weird to the point of extreme creepieness. Ummm...Hellsing is really gory and has a lot of blood, but it's more action than horror. Same thing with Vampire hunter D, Blood the last Vampire, Ninja Scroll, Gantz, Nightwalker, Urotsukidoji etc.

Or if you like more subtle creepy anime (less violance more phsychological horror) try Jigoku Shoujo, and Vampire Princess Miyu.

Or if you want somthing a little more mystery/suspence oriented than try Death Note.

I have watched Lain and Paranoia, dont think they are weird tho, Lain is a very good sci-fi to me. Narutaru doesnt have gore, but its disturbing due to its raping and violent indication...
but nothing caught me off guard but the first 4 eps of Higurashi , haha

Kiyuge 01-13-2008 12:31 AM

Blood + is my favorite "horror" Anime...

DragonShade 01-13-2008 02:42 AM

if ur looking for gruesome anime rather than horror, I suggest u watch Shigurui , its FXXXXXXX sick! I am not "man" enough to continue after ep3......

RyuuzakiSan 05-19-2009 09:15 AM

Another creepy anime would be Ghost Hunt.
If you're the type of person who likes paranormal phenomena, then....
I would recommend this anime to watch.

Personally I do not like horror anime to begin with, mah.... then there is
only Death Note that I do like. Most likely because it's my favorite ^^

YagamiLight 05-19-2009 09:35 AM

I do like horror anime ^^
Favorites are: Ghost Hunt & Blood+

ForeverDreamer 05-20-2009 11:16 PM

Higurashi and Portrait de Petit Cossette. because they're so wickedly messed up :D

nobora 05-20-2009 11:50 PM

xxxholic ? that counts right?

Kufufunofu 05-21-2009 12:39 AM

def agree, here -
blood + is pretty intense and gruesome, when it comes to the horror bit of anime :]

haven't seen the anime, but from the manga -
i think boogiepop phantom would be a bit spooky...

magicalgirlj 07-18-2009 04:31 AM

Elfen Lied and Higurashi
the upcoming 11 Eyes

Aota 07-18-2009 03:38 PM

Blood+ is nice for me. But, I like things that blend lots of gore with lots of suspense, and/or action, and a hint of comedy. So Gantz is a fave.

BUT! If Uzumaki were an anime, I'd fer shur watch it.

hinata2 07-18-2009 04:08 PM

death note if that's one

Aniki 07-18-2009 05:01 PM

Lucky Star. It's so horrifying that I even had nightmares, and no anime ever succeeded doing that to me.

JasonTakeshi 07-19-2009 10:45 PM

1- Elfen Lied (And was not because of the gore on it, but the story itself. Disturbing. Atleast for me)
2- Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (Confusing at start, wicked at last)
3- Shigurui/Blood+
4- Hellsing/Gantz (More like action)
5- Death Note (Nearly the end, the psychological pressure on it)

Well, those were the ones ive seen and recommend. :P

Undertherose25 07-21-2009 07:40 AM

Hellsing and Vampire Hunter D have made me jump a few times.

[Dragon Head and Dark Metro the mangas scared the bejesus out of me I haven't found something to match that sort of horror yet]

Deviruu 07-21-2009 06:57 PM

Oh my! It's nice to see there are fellow posters who have heard of Elfen Lied.

I loved it. It was gruesome, the story line was disturbing I must agree.

Kufufunofu 07-21-2009 07:35 PM

right now umineko no naku koro ni :p

Guigoo 07-31-2009 12:40 AM

definetely, the worst ever is boogiepop phantom.

the pathetic faces, the gloomy lights, everything makes me shiver.

interlude ep is so cruel and disturbing. it scares the crap out of me

AkioFlameWall 12-22-2010 08:24 PM

I see nobody has put down Tokko yet, thats kinda...:( sad...

:D Anyways! I think Tokko is awesome, but it's real short, I mean REAL...with a stupid ending episode  ...:) but anyways! There's also Elfen Lied of course (which I personally don't like much) and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni/When They Cry, Blood +, Hellsing is one...and I'd also say Claymore...I haven't seen too much, but I heard it was bloody and I saw a trailer. Thats all I've got for now!
