Ok, whats up with Chobits?

Alright, my Girlfriend told me to about an anime called Chobits, now I have heard of it and i have seen it before she mentioned it. However, just moments ago, I've just finished actually watching it, and I don't have the slightest idea what it is about. could any of you guys fill me in?:p

matt19261 04-01-2008 01:19 AM

Sosomi 04-01-2008 01:27 AM

Why are there so many Texans on this forum o.o

Anyway. I guess it's weird I dunno. Cause like shes a special robot sorta <<
I really like it plus Chi is just so pretty and cute.

SSJup81 04-01-2008 02:46 AM

I was so hoping that Hideki wouldn't fall for Chi to keep the plot unpredictable, but that's CLAMP for you...

Anyway, I still find it ironic how the overly horny, porn loving Hideki will probably remain a permanent virgin, since he'll be devoted to Chi. He's not allowed near that special switch of hers.;)

Regardless if it's stereotypical the deeper lesson of the story is pretty admirable.

Very true. It's kind of like a "love conquers all" type thing or "love has no boundaries". I still wish the two wouldn't have hooked up, though.

I was expecting them not to hook up. o.o

I was expecting it from early on, but was hoping that it wouldn't happen. CLAMP, imo, is just predictable with its stories sometimes.

Most animes in general are very predictable <<
Which is why I stick to the weird shit like Paranoia Agent.

Agreed, I didn't say that I didn't like it, I've grown fond of it actually. :D

I haven't seen Chobits or read the manga, but I'm well aware of what the basic idea is, and the certain problem is...

which is why I ask, why can't one just transfer her memory to an external hard drive or the like, then go do the deed, and import it back? Perhaps I should see the series in order to answer this question, but that's just an idea I thought up

Because her memory is different than a normal persocoms. She's almost human, so she has "feelings" and "emotions" that she's learned that probably wouldn't fit on any hard drive. This is just my idea though.

The manga explains it better than the anime. The bottom line here is that she must be loved for what she is, regardless of what she can or cannot do. The case of the switch was done on purpose by her creator as the ultimate test. Quite a noble message if I may say so...

Drend 04-07-2008 09:12 PM

Yep, skimmed the important parts in my Chobits manga and Diclonius is dead on. They wanted her to be loved for her and nothing else. The creepy book is probably the only thing in the anime that explains it thoroughly.

Diclonius 04-08-2008 03:31 AM

Well, I don't consider the manga creepy at all; I love the artwork and the story! :)

But the ending in the anime is the same as in the manga. I've never watched the entire anime, but I have read all of the manga, and was told that the endings were the same. Works by CLAMP in general seems to be predictable.

Actually, I meant the book that Chii reads. The one about her and Hideki.

Diclonius 04-08-2008 02:22 PM

Ah, gomen! That book is indeed a little bizarre, you just have to look deeper into it to understand the message...

SamuraiAlchemistNinja 04-08-2008 03:30 PM

Yeah, it's representative of a few things, actually.

Animekitty 04-10-2008 12:38 AM

If I'm not mistaken--i need to rewatch and read the series--the anime diverged from the manga. If you remember the episode with the creepy peek show, Freya(?) tells Chi that only the person just for her can touch her there so it follows (in the anime anyway) that the two of them can get it now.

The message was pretty clear after she bought the second edition, but the scenes in the anime where it was read is what firghtened me. I think ti was the song that played and the solemn voice she used when she read it.

chibichick83 09-09-2008 01:27 PM

I LOOOOOOVE CHOBITS! It's really funny and cute both at the same time! I'm currently watching this series on DVD lately as I have the complete box set and will be making a start on volume 3 soon :)

I also want to find the time to be able to buy and read all 8 volumes of the manga to this series aswell, as I knew I'd thoroughyly enjoy it as I'm such a big fan of all CLAMP manga/anime anyway

kaelazors 09-09-2008 05:03 PM

chobits was a cute series.. kinda confusing at times, but cute nonetheless ^^

sailorkittehxoxo 09-09-2008 07:04 PM

Basically this is it [i only know a little im on book 3]

anime: Hideki moves from a poor farm to tokyo and finds people having robots called persocons. They are robots designed to look like people. He one day finds a persocon in the trash and brings it home. He turns it on which the switch is on her crotch. Als she says is Chii and her name is chii. she is a chobits which is a special persocon. hideki falls in love with chii and he teaches her some things in life like talking and shopping.

chibichick83 09-18-2008 09:23 AM

I'm currently up to volume 6 of the 8 volumes of the Chobits manga and volume 3 of the 6 volumes of the DVD anime and I'm throughly enjoying every minute of it :)
