gotta catch'em all

the show, as if anyone mature acutally watches it anymore, pokemon, has grown completely out of it's original shell. Things used to be less togetherness and more seriousness. Has this changed for better or worse? (In your opinion, of course)

MarkDuff 05-30-2008 02:14 PM

well I;m not really sure I used to watch and I still do if their nothing else on(whch seems to happen alote x.x) you could say it has but then againyou could say it hasn't..........idk I would say it has I mean it's old as hell man this damn show was on when I was 6(which would be in 1998 old show right their) and I think even earlier than that........soo it has lasted a long time

Asakura 05-30-2008 09:02 PM

I grew up on Pokemon so I'm Bias but I still enjoy it, and I like the positive message it gives kids.

It kinda distracts from the fact that the concept of pokemon is kid-friendly cock fighting.

ForeverDreamer 05-30-2008 10:03 PM

well, even though i grew up on it, i'm slowly starting to find the anime annoying...but that's probably mostly contributed by the fact that they changed the VA's :(
i still enjoy some of the movies however, but the games are still awesome. they are (if not the anime) getting somewhat better :)

chenli 05-31-2008 11:36 AM

I loved it as a child, but don't watch it anymore. I still have the movies and the cards and the games though.

Tsuyako 05-31-2008 06:47 PM

I used to watch it when I was younger but then each episode seemed to end the same and then it all got a bit confusing O.o

However, my mum used to be obsessed with it (Pikachu poster, Pikachu bag, Pikachu advent calendar , Pokemon computer games >.>)

Nekozawa 05-31-2008 07:36 PM

I love Pokemon still!
Not the american version though, as it is more biased for kids and the voices really annoy me for some reason. ^^;

Though I watched the newest american Dimond & Pearl episode this morning, and it seemed very... Corny? I suppose that's how it si. But I still love it. The games too.

Wow Tsuyako. Your Mom is fawesome!
My mom has all those things but Totoro.
And doesn't Totoro look like a Munchlax?

XjapanFOREVER 05-31-2008 07:37 PM

The show used to be the shit...
now it's sucks...
there's way too many pokemon to even try to keep up with..
I stopped paying attention after gold and silver..

Nekozawa 05-31-2008 08:41 PM

Well, I personally enjoy the Japanese version better.
It's seemingly more violent than the edited American version.

Hmm. That's true, but what's the fun if you've already caught them all?
More Pokemon to catch is fun.
Also, since I'm a Pokemon hunter, it's fun to check off the list of ones I already have. Training them is even funner (not really a word but okay. o.o ), because I get to know that pokemon, it's attack power, strengthing it, comboing the attack power with gracefulness, and accesorizing it is always fun. I don't ever get bored. <3

I grew up on the Amercanization of Pokemon but! I prefer Japanese voices over all. I dont know why but in almost every anime with Amercan voices I can barely watch it because it just bugs me. But I love Pokemon. Just the original Pokemon, not the Diamond and Pearl and all that.

Well, cheap American dubs are something we have to deal with, the voices in Advent Children: Final Fantasy VII spun me into a dimension of pissed off I've never been in.

I have heard the Japanese voices and they are cooler than the American counterparts, but overall the series just isn't as good as it used to be, most of my friends hate it anymore because it's "level of coolness" just down-spiraled.

btw, Nekozawa, I love your avatar.. XDDD

manganimefan227 05-31-2008 09:21 PM

Ya the series has become jus way too repeative and predictible.

Maikaru 06-01-2008 02:58 AM

I've never heard, seen, or even thougth of the japan versrion of it:confused: . I've gotta try it some time.

And I assume your not 10 years old either:D The thing is is that the story IS geared tward young children. Young children like those stories. Teenagers, Young Adults, Adults not so much.

To:Maikaru

Y'know it took me awile to figure out it was anime too. Like I rewatched some of the first season for awile and I just now get all the references to Japanese culture. It's kinda like sublminal messaging in a way.

I grew up watching Pokemon, but now, since they totally changed the voices...it's just plain weird now......Occasionally I try to watch the movies to see how they have progressed.

The movies seem a whole lot better than the episodes, even though they are just filler.

Nonica 06-02-2008 10:37 PM

I hate what pokemon has become but i still love it with the white hot intensity of a thousand burning suns.

nala 06-03-2008 11:56 AM

In fact...I think I still have some of my Pokemon cards...God, I was stupid to waste all that money on frickin playing cards....well, at least they'll probably be worth something in the future...I hope.

Sangetsu 06-03-2008 12:32 PM

Pokemon is still wildly popular here in Japan. I posed for a picture on top of a giant Pikachu at Tokyo Dome City a couple weeks ago. This morning I walked by the Tokyo Pokemon Center (funny that spell check says "Pikachu" is misspelled, yet "Pokemon" is correct, but I digress...), the store was full of high school girls in uniforms who were shopping for who knows what.

nala 06-03-2008 01:37 PM

 ???...Pokemon Center...:D

Catmint 06-04-2008 12:34 AM

I was into the first season of Pokemon. I still own Pokemon Red and Pokemon Silver, and I also have Pokemon Pearl. I cosplayed as the game version (as opposed to the anime) of Hikari from Pokemon Diamond/Pearl this past Anime Boston, but after the first season of Pokemon, my enjoyment of it comes mostly from the games.

KikiBunny23 06-04-2008 12:45 AM

i grew up watching it and have quite a few vhs's [dont see those around anymore] of the original season. I liked it better back then because it was just more enjoying. I watch it every now and then but it usually comes on in the morning and thats when i sleep so I don't watch it as much.
I have the pokemon blue and red and my sister has yellow...its just so odd seeing all the new pokemon compared to what they used to be...i can't even remember all the names now o_O
