However looking at retail prices for volumes it's no wonder (aside from sheer convenience and free) fans are reluctant to buy. I've seen Deathnote (as an example) Volume 2 going for about $35. Four episides for $35? It's a single DVD. You can get Blu-Rays for cheaper than that. Granted that was at Sunrise, in Ontario. Sunrise tends to price mark a little however by only a few dollars. A volume should be no more than $20 considering what you actually get with it.

The only Anime i've bought is the Akira movie, and two Broly movies on their double feature Blu-Ray release. (Which I think off Amazon was only like $22)

I always buy boxed anime from ADV. It's always so cheap and their dubs and subs, I personally think, are the best.
The only time I buy single disks are when they're used at GameStop when they're like $9 or lower. My three GS within 20 miles from me have TOOOONS of anime. :D

Here in Portugal it's difficult to buy manga and anime related products and I can't use Amazon, E-bay or others because I'm underaged, but still I try to buy some products every now and then.

A new CD will hopefully sell millions of copies at 15 dollars a pop, so people don't feel like they are stealing when they download music, as Mariah Carey and Miley Cyrus are obviously rich.

You can't hold manga and anime to that same standard.

If a new CD sells 1,000,000 copies, manga publishers are hoping to sell 10% of that number (10,000) copies of a manga. Some sell more, most sell less.

So every fan that steals a copy online instead of buying has a much greater impact on the publisher.

America's biggest manga publisher, TokyoPop had only 100 employees...and they cut 40 of them last week.

When you steal manga and anime, you aren't stealing from the rich, only from dedicated fans who want to bring manga and anime to as many people possible.

There are 4 licensed manga's on the front page alone in that link you provided.

Nowhere in that site did I find mention of them paying royalties to anyone. Not in the Terms of Use, not in News, not in Announcements, no where.

I did find that users are not supposed to upload copyrighted material in the TOU, which is exactly what licensed manga is.

Edit: All that the section of the TOU you copy+pasted is saying is member are not supposed to upload copyrighted material.

Guess what. I'm willing to bet none of those members own the rights to the licensed works.
