I love the boondocks...

I know it's racial and all, but you have to admit it's one of the funniest cartoons out there....lol

SoundSev3n 07-31-2008 04:49 AM

the boondocks is hilarious...

...but yeah i could see how the original context or certain episodes and situations might be hard to get across. The slang might have been a pain to deal with as well.

That dude almost crapped his pants when he dropped his soap...lol
I'm dl'ing season 1 now....lol

Boondocks is awesome.
It's hilarious but has an amazing amount of irony and moral to it.
Lots of lessons to be learned.

I just hope the Japanese notice the irony and moral and don't just assume that's how the stereotypes really are.

Payne222 07-31-2008 05:16 AM

Yeah, I love the show, I own all the
books for the strips.
I just would hate if the message wasn't
being put across.
That's what I love about the show!
McGruder's messages!

Amen to that.

I don't watch it all that much, but my mom adores it, ironically, it just went off ><

I'm not sure what the hell got the Boondocks over there, but hey, share the love :vsign:

I've known about Boondocks being shown in Japan for a long time now, but, I'm not sure if the average Japanese audience'll actually get the point of such a satirized show which hits on issues dealing with most everything wrong with black America. Would this allow them see past the stereotypes that they're used to, or worsen it?

I read the comic strip all the time. Didn't even know there was a cartoon series. I need to watch more TV.

I think they might get the wrong idea honestly...
I mean, they never had the strip released in Japan,
right?
And I don't think they've ever seem or read interviews
with McGruder...
Anyone from Japan wanna give us your insight on it??
Haha

i think thats really cool that the boondocks is over there i would of never guess that it was over there, but as an african american ,I hope that the japanese don't really look at us that way all americans in general. Though, lets hope they also get the acutal comic of the boondocks too...

Out of curiosity, are you fluent in Japanese? The show is dubbed into Japanese.

I couldn't see them getting the comic. Anyway, I still couldn't see this show being helpful of their understanding of blacks in America. I know I sound like a skeptic, but the show is satire. It's exaggerating the problems associated with black America. I could see the show giving off the impression that this is how blacks act in America, especially if season 2 is shipped over there since it was Riley-focused.

Yeah, I think that the Japanese will think, like,
that's a serious view of how black people are
and stuff.
And then they'll try acting that way
and talking that way...

I just wanna see this dubbed...XDD

The Boondocks

Is anyone a fan of The Boondocks?
I recently started watching it and think it's decent. Wondered if it was very popular in Japan.
(Which I'll go out on a limb and say no?)

DJ3 08-05-2008 02:08 PM

SSJup81 08-05-2008 02:30 PM

There's already a topic on this.

gr34t3st 08-05-2008 02:39 PM

Well my point in this thread was to see how many people actually watched it on a regular basis and how many members were fans.
I was just curious if it was popular in Japan because I figured it wasn't.
Thank you for answering my question I guess.
