When Have You Read Enough Manga

Is there a limit to how much manga you shut bee read?
and what happens when you cross the line, does that meadn you had become a fanatic that has to read a new manga every other day and you are still not satisfied.
had these ever happen to some one or is it just an addiction.

Uriko 09-21-2008 02:18 AM

I don't really set myself a limit for reading manga... I just read it until I want to do something else.

chibichick83 09-21-2008 07:36 AM

I never ever ever limit myself as to how much manga I could or should be reading at any given time, and the fact that I go through so many volumes in a single week alone really does show that I can't ever truly put it down in the end as I get so hooked on whichever series I'm reading at the time that I just have to soar through and read them all :)

When you become a hikikomori

chibichick83 09-21-2008 10:02 AM

I fully admit that I am obsessed with reading manga every single day, and on my days off work I will quite happily sit for hours on end either on my sofa in the living room, upstairs in my bedroom oor in my study reading manga for at least 3/4 hours at a time and not get bored whatsoever...I can never have enough! :D

gr34t3st 09-22-2008 12:04 AM

Lately I've been buying a lot of manga online. I bought all of the zombie powder volumes really cheap. The first one was only 86 cents and it was "like new" condition.

It's too expensive to be a habit though. I'm almost broke... D:

Yuna7780 09-22-2008 12:41 AM

A lot of you will hit me with pies.

I have an addiction to manga, but I don't have time to read. Over the past five years I've accumulated like 200 volumes. I buy at least a book a week and I have like 30 volumes of manga that I haven't read yet because," Oh! I'll just finish doing my homework, work, life, etc. and I'll get to it later!"

Like, all of my friends have The Cain Saga and Godchild on myshelf, but myself. Also the latest volumes of many mangas I have.

But I read a lot of my friends' books and I've been re-reading all of my books lately and my friends' series I've read years before.

This also goes for my really cheap anime DVDs I buy at GameStop. Good ole 5 DVDs for $20... :)

I also might add that I've been reading actual novels lately and I haven't focused on video games in my free time lately... Sooo, I've been playing games every chance I get and read manga in study hall if I don't have homework, which isn't often.

I remember earlier this year that I read four Shojo Beats in a week because I didn't have time and I was four months behind reading on my subscriptions.

Sandy681674 09-22-2008 04:38 PM

I dont think you can ever read to much manga, or watch to much anime, for that matter.:rheart:

mangapunkrocker 09-22-2008 04:55 PM

It's an addiction for me, i'll spend a lot of money on them even if i'm broke for the next two weeks until my paycheck. I have to keep buying, i've bought so many i have to buy another bookshelf. And i read them so fast that i can go through ten in about three or four hours and reread them that same day. And what's worse is that i don't want to buy them used i have to buy them new. :D

marisoru 09-22-2008 07:54 PM

Drend 10-01-2008 05:24 AM

I usually don't have a limit. I'm keeping up with at least 10 manga series, can't remember right off the top of my head. If I find a series I like, I'll usually read right up to the most recent scanlated chapter, or save some for later if I get bored. I don't really buy any manga though.

I'm definitely testing the latter assertion. Shuffle, They Are My Noble Masters, Kono Aozora ni Yakusoku Wo, Wagaya no Oinari-sama, whenever my Negima and Haruhi special orders arrive...

kaelazors 10-01-2008 06:29 AM

you can never read enough manga LOL

chibichick83 10-01-2008 11:11 AM

I can't remember the last time I picked up and read a normal novel/book nowadays :D

It's heading on for about 7/8 years now I should think since I first discovered the awesomeness that is manga reading :D

Shanis 10-01-2008 11:18 AM

simply then there aren´t any mangas anymore to read :D:D so that´ll never happen, but i need more money >.<

chibichick83 10-01-2008 11:43 AM

There are always loads of fab new and classic series out there to buy and collect all of the time from so many different bookstores across the world that you would never run out of manga to read ever, nor not ever be able to afford to either as they're all pretty well and reasonably priced :)

Nyororin 10-01-2008 12:03 PM

I don`t think it is a matter of "how much" but more a matter of "how much TIME spent".
Someone can have a literally incredible number of manga, and have read countless volumes... But not have spent that much time out of their life on it. I don`t even dare try count how many manga (単行本, to be specific) I have in my house. I`d estimate somewhere over 1000 if I include the "retired" ones that are packed away in cases in the closet. If there is a series I think looks interesting, I usually buy the first 2 volumes as a test, then buy the rest in one bundle. There are a few artists we follow, and buy their stuff without having read any of it... And a number of series we buy everytime they come out.

However, in terms of time actually spent on manga... It`s not all that high at all. It`s certainly nowhere near the focus of my life. Just an enjoyable media.

I do get a kick out of getting my husband to act out bits. He went to a voice acting academy, and is good.

GenshuNoYoru 10-01-2008 09:28 PM

Well, I think you should only read to the point that it's not taking over your life. Trust me, a friend of mind turned into a complete manga addict. She kept telling me that she saw manga and anime characters everywhere and-Wait! I think I see Iwaki-san! (runs over) xD

gloggglogg 10-07-2008 02:52 PM

The answer to your question

You have read to much manga if you come home exhausted after work and without thinking utter: "Crap! Im out of chakra!"

You are also using too much time on manga if you stay up reading til 4.30AM several days in a row. Wait... that means that i need to read less manga... oops, i take it back!

But seriously, i think if you loose focus on the things that matter its a good time to cut down on the manga reading. So what is loosing focus?

I guess that depends on the person in question. If you have a family and you forget to make dinner, take your woman/man on regular dates. As a Christian if you stop reading the bible and stop praying. As an employee if you come late to work because you were reading manga on the buss and missed your stop :), or get caught reading manga/watching anime at work, lol!

But this goes not only for manga/anime but for everything, a good frieds of me usually says "too much of anything is bad"

Peace

ccppfan 10-12-2008 06:28 AM

You can never, and mean NEVER get enough manga in my case. Cuz I like Pokemon. :rheart: And Detective Conan.:rheart: And they STILL DON'T HAVE AN ENDING YET. So I need to read. And watch. And read and watch and read and watch and read and watch and read and watch and...

Wait, I feel dizzy. :)

marisoru 11-03-2008 06:23 PM

ok so manga is never enogh
that means we all cool

ForeverDreamer 11-04-2008 11:39 AM

There can never be such a thing as too much manga.....that's like saying there's a limit to how much you can breath. >.>

lself 11-11-2008 11:31 PM

I agree^ My only limit is money unfortunately...my library sucks and doesn't have much manga, or at least not the ones i would want to read.
