How to you like your manga?

How do you like to read your manga?

Retrogamer77 01-14-2009 12:02 AM

I would answer your question, but I'm not entirely sure what it is. :o

See the poll, please.

Retrogamer77 01-14-2009 12:06 AM

Ah, my apologies.

I would definitely have to say floppies. :)

I'm a bit of a collector and it's easier for me to store them. That and the fact that often I'm not interested in all of the things in the larger mags. *nod*

minimin 01-14-2009 12:07 AM

Regular Tankobon 200 pages, like something with some substance ^_^ I've never seen a 400 page manga T_T hmm.......but I do read Shojobeat sometimes but not as much as Id rather just go buy the manga now :)

Yuna7780 01-14-2009 12:29 AM

I like my manga a little charred and lightly salted. ;)

For realz, I like the jumbo tankobons. I love it when I buy three books-in-one in the original magazine print for $15. Saves me A LOT of money.

Otherwise, I love my Shoujo Beat magazines. I get so excited. It was stupid for a little while, but now it has gotten much better!

Trouble 01-14-2009 12:30 AM

Woops, accidently voted for mags like Shonen Jump. anyways, I read this in regular 200 page tankobon. :D

HIalchemist 01-14-2009 12:53 AM

Hmm. I like the jumbo, but they're a pain to carry if you get the huge ones.

I like floppies & regular

xYinniex 01-14-2009 01:00 AM

How do i like my manga?

Sunny side up. XD

Salvanas 01-14-2009 01:03 AM

Shaken, not stirred.

Shiningmonkey 01-14-2009 03:24 AM

I prefer regular Tankobon though I haven't read a jumbo one. I'll have to check those out ^_^

NishiHime 01-14-2009 04:03 AM

LOL! All of the above and with a side of sushi or ramen or udon - mmmm udon :) reading manga makes me hungry :)

allie2590 01-14-2009 04:24 AM

Regular tankobon, and sometimes jumbo tankobon. I'm a pretty quick reader, so I like manga to last for a while, and floppies and magazines don't cut it for me.

JField 01-14-2009 07:08 AM

Regular manga
Experimental manga
Style manga

I love manga that draws me into its pages!

That wasn't really the question...

Nyororin 01-14-2009 08:25 AM

Regular tankobon.
The weekly compilations are too much of a pain to keep up with and buy, and are awful to store - especially when you`re only interested in a series or two.

A quick question of my own - do they still refer to them as tankobon outside of Japan?

then don't read Iron Wok Jan! it will make you drool way too much :p

Hmm; what is this size called?

its the same size as a dvd box (height)... sorry, i don't know how many pages, but i'd take a stab at about 200 :s

incidentally the manga I'm holding is awesome, i just need to find the second volume...

Uriko 01-14-2009 09:16 PM

regular tankobon & floppies. :3

Tangram 01-14-2009 09:25 PM

Magazines are great, and what I pay most attention to. It's difficult for me to spend money on a tankoban unless I already know for sure that I'll like it. And if it's a series I know I enjoy, I prefer to get the jumbo tankoban if available. Of course, magazines are limited in the US, which is sad. When I reach the point of semi-literacy in Japanese, I will find someone in Japan willing to get them and send them to me!

That'd be a regular tankoban, from what I can see. Jumbo tankoban are usually several regular tankoban volumes compiled.

Dammit, you beat me to it.

But seriously, I never held a real manga in my hands, so I can't answer that question.

hahahahaha well now you've gone & piqued my curiosity ;) I have to get it and read it! :D

PockyMePink 01-15-2009 02:28 AM

I like my manga in my hands, where it belongs.

I'm not a big anime fan, but I have a pretty nifty little manga collection.

(I voted regular tankoban)

Kanji_The_Wanderer 01-15-2009 03:48 AM

I've always enjoyed the volumes.

It's a nice little thing to look forward to every two months or so, when you know the next volume in your series is coming out.

I really appreciate being able to buy them, and to be able to contribute to the artist's greatness.

reihiino 01-15-2009 03:56 AM

regular tankobon. but as of now i wont be able to spend any money on buying or renting manga...so i just have my manga mag (shojo beat)...
...damn just realized i may not be able to get the next Kaze Hikaru!
TT

Yuna7780 01-15-2009 04:16 PM

What are floppies? I've never even heard about the entire concept of a manga being 35 pages... Post a pic if you can.

I don't have a picture, but I was only recently exposed to these, and I'm not sure how recent they were. XD It was at a local nerd shop: they had sets of Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon floppies (along with a few other series). I didn't look at the dates, but they looked new. However, I recognized the artwork of the Sailor Moon floppies to be rather old, so I dunno. I would assume that each floppy was a chapter from the tankoban.

PockyMePink 01-15-2009 04:47 PM

I don't think I've ever seen them either O.o
Guess you're not alone here, Yuna :p

Pexster 01-15-2009 05:51 PM

I like Shonen jump & regulars. (^^)v

magicalgirlj 01-24-2009 01:59 AM

I like the regular manga format in invidual volumes.

Yuna7780 01-24-2009 03:32 AM

I think the closest thing to a floppy I know of is this old comic from my Pokemon game I got YEARS ago. It's tiny and has a short story in it. I read it sometime last year for the first time in a long time. It was so funny.
