Japanese Manga/Anime influence on your life

Hi! I've often heard that Japanese manga/anime changed concepts about love relationships, femininity, masculinity, even life itself.

For example, KAWAII (Cute)-ness and childishness depicted especially in Shojo-manga/anime have given an alternative to western notion of feimininity which tends to value matureness.

If it's true, I'm so interested in hearing how your ideas about love life, relationships (friendships, family relationships etc), life itself have been changed.

In my case (a Japanese female), I longed for too-much romanticism about love relationships with my boyfriends. So, in many cases, our relationships ended up my disillusion. (But now I'm mature enough to understand that commited relationship has to do with not only romanticism but also other things (pains/hardship/respect/responsiblity etc). But still I love being cute and want to be thought as a cute woman.

How about you?

It changed my outlook on life and I tend to exaggerate some emotions like in anime lol:).

darkangelgrl 08-13-2007 08:32 PM

Yes...
For me I started to watch Inuyahsa.
But after that i was hooked onto Anime.
It did change my outlook on alot of things.
Like now, I try and get into eating Japanese foods.
And also, They do give some good ideas for stories.
I love to write fiction, and poetry, so i use Anime alot for ideas, and inspiration!

Yeah, I agree. Its a hobby, full of fictional stories. Though the stories may be life-like, it hasn't changed my outlook on life. Personal experiances have done that, lol.

Hmmm....Maybe I was surrounded by too many Shojo-manga and anime in Japan when I was little. You guys could realize anime/manga stories are just fictional, and the real life is different..... Well, as a child, I was influenced by anime/manga characters /stories too much, perhaps?

I'd have to say that anime changed a lot of my ideas. I started watching certain ones when I was really small and I still do. But, I'd say that they changed some of my relationship concepts and they're great for story & poem inspirations.

I think that even though anime is a work of fiction (not counting the ones that are based on true stories) I think that they can still affect you and even change your outlook. I've heard people tell me many times that such and such a book or some movie had a really big impact on them. I don't see why this would be any different. There are many animes that deal with real, important topics and themes.

Personally, a novel had a really strong impact on my view of the world (Atlas Shrugged in case you're curious) so I definitely think someone could be affected by anime.

anime

I wouldn't even know that anime exist if it weren't for my bro. but know I can't live with out it. I used to want to be a vet but now I want to create anime and manga! long story short anime changed my goals and life.

Anime put a huge change in my life because that is what my career is going to be. I put my heart and soul into my anime.

Mmm, curious.... What anime made your career goal change?

dannavy85 08-24-2007 01:29 PM

I think the early Anime of the 60's and 70's shaped my life in some ways, Tezuka's works were always moral and values based. Star Blazers (Space Cruiser Yamato) and Battle of the Planets (Gatchaman) shaped my thoughts about good and evil. I think Naruto is the best moral and ethics teaching anime out there today, certainly it's one of the few cartoons my brothers will let their kids watch.

ccppfan 10-19-2008 10:24 AM

I think... it changed me, yeah. My friend DOES look like someone in Prince of Tennis. Her bro looks like another. Oh, and did I mention if I dye my hair blone and put it bacck with a hairband I'll look like Sonoko in Detective Conan?!?!?!?! :happypika: LOL.

So, as you can see, it makes some people think I'm hyper. :crykitty:

But who cares? Not me! :pinksong:

Oh, and I've wrote like 1000 eps of fan-fics. So... I AM hyper I guess. :whiteflag:

Whatever. Just pretend I never said that.

life

Manga/anime has had a really big impact on my life. Seriously, if nothing like it existed, and noone remembered it, life would just be so empty and boring. Some characters are good "role models", too, even if they are not like, real people you know personally. But the point I consider going a little too far is when you copy everything the character does, almost to the point of obsession. thats a bit strange.

KikiBunny23 10-19-2008 04:33 PM

manga/anime made me want relationships like they have...but now I kinda do and it sucks

Crani 10-19-2008 04:54 PM

Well, I was never a sane person but after watching Bo^7, that was it, now a days I just at the almost everything, it can either be or not funny...

jasminoodle 01-07-2009 08:51 PM

XD

Anime and Manga influenced me to pick up a pencil and start drawing again (though I lost my edge...) It's also made me want to learn more about different cultures and their history, the movie Seven Samurai and anime Samurai 7 (without the robots) have made me look into becoming a war historian (hopefully).

minimin 01-08-2009 10:43 AM

Yeah, Anime and Manga are important in my life and essential cuz thats all I draw, and for awhile it was all I watched. I was a supreme anime addict. I remember I use to draw in class all the time. If I didnt have anime what da heo would I draw, I probably wouldnt draw at all. I wouldnt have heard Jpop for the First time, and I wouldnt be so into Japanese Culture. My life might be completely...infact would be completely different if I didnt watch anime or read manga..it really would.

RubieWubie 01-09-2009 07:43 PM

Anime sure did change a few things in my life, just like you I romantized my thoughts of relationships, the point is , it never works out.
I keep on hoping to find that true love somehow, but I've also become more 'ecchi' haha, but the thing I am really worried about is that I am 19 now, and people around me think its childish to still watch anime and ready manga, but in my head I keep telling myself it's normal because in Japan everyone reads manga and watches anime.. Today I decided to go to Japan in a few years, starting today I will be learning japanese through courses!

Greetings,

Rubie

Not good enough

Sometimes I compare the guys in my school to the guys I read about in my anime and it makes them seem...not good enough. I mean, the guys in manga and anime are sooo perfect and the real guys are just...not. Sorry guys :o

RyuuzakiSan 05-18-2009 10:40 AM

Personally, I think anime/manga has a great influence on my life.
Since the day I 'discovered' both anime and manga, it drastically changed my
daily life. In a positive way it is [L/Ryuuzaki - Death Note] became my personal idol. =DD
