tales of Earthsea

it is one of Ghibli studio's movie..
when you hear this, you might rush to either buy or download it, and this is exactly what i have done..
but i was dissappointed by it! to me, it shouldnt hold ghiblis name at all! i mean it is the worst in their collection, and before watching it i thought porco roso was the worst, but compared to it, well... give me porco roso or even whisper of the heart to watch any time!

did any one watch it, what do you think of it??

fara7 08-24-2007 12:27 AM

I haven't watched it ,I was thinking of watching it, but since you said it the worst among ghiblie's movies , i will not.

ILOVEJAPAN 08-24-2007 10:49 PM

wow...

That bad huh? Well thats what happens when you use an inexperianced director, just because they happen to be Hayao Miyazaki's son.

terra104 08-25-2007 11:58 AM

yeah, i guess he needs three life times to reach his fathers level of creativity!

kyo_9 08-25-2007 01:13 PM

OMG! is it that bad?
well, i guess you should not put to many hope on miyazaki's son coz if i'm not mistaken, this is his first shot.. I hope he have learn his lesson and try to make a better quality of anime in the future..

I didn't think the film was that bad. The problem is people are simply comparing it to the rest of Studio Ghibli's catalogue. If it was released by a different studio I bet the review scores would be a lot higher.

The animation was better than most anime out there, and you really came to like the characters and care about what happened to them. Plot wise I found the first half a little slow but the last half was excellent. Worth seeing I'd say (as long as you don't mind slow paced films anyway). Would I watch it again? Not sure.

i agree, the plot left me feeling a bit empty to tell you the truth

other Miyazaki movies was better. Gedo Senki ... hmz boring =/

Spikess 09-04-2007 09:07 PM

i may be wrong about this, but i heard that miyazaki didn't even want him doing such a high budget film.

though i haven't seen it, but the empire magazine gave it 3 out of 5 which i suppose since it's the guys first film really isn't that bad.

i'll still buy it though. just for the collection.

Yea, Hayao Miyazaki, didnt want Goro Miyazaki, to work on such a big project without any experience. Hayao Miyazaki, wasnt (im not sure if he still isnt) talking to his son. Although, after the movie premeire he left his son a note saying "good job" or somthing like that.

Still.. it was watchable. Mmm, and I love the song Therru sings.

cherale1 09-11-2007 04:35 PM

damn!

I havent seen it yet but wow. I've read what everyones said and personally it makes me wanna watch the movie. I love all of Studio Ghibli's films. Some more so then others. I tried watching My Neighbors the Yamada's but couldn't so I ended up giving that to someone else otherwise I have all of the S.G. films released in the US.

Its honorable that he wants to follow in his fathers steps. He may not be on par but everyone has to start somewhere. True it could of been a lower budget movie but oh well. I'll still watch it when it gets released here. whether I buy it or not though I don't know. lol...Most likely will just to have the film. lol

Anyway thats what I think...*shrugs*

Unforutanatly we will have to wait until at least 2009, because, in the US, the rights are tied up with a TV drama addaption of the same novel.
