You were main programmer at 21? Not bad at all! Especially if you're under thirty, now. My eldest brother is like you: he started teaching himself BASIC at age twelve and by the time he'd finished high-school, he was making more money per year than my parents for a small software company. That was back when skilled programmers were a little hard to get at, though, so his young age wasn't exactly uncommon in the industry, afaik.
Now adays, being the head of a programming department at 21 means either you're really good, or someone doesn't know what's up.
