Wanting to Improve my Latin

I'm looking to improve my Latin as well as my Japanese. I help by teaching English if anyone can help...PM me

Suki 11-22-2007 05:06 PM

You mean ancient Latin? hahahah I highly doubt anyone would want to improve in that since it's no longer spoken anywhere, unless you count the Vatican city. lol

I like it because it's the root of most european languages, it does help in the learning of most euro languages. That and I like the ability to talk to a handfull of people in a way that no one else can understand...like the windtalkers or whatever..

I might be able to help you learn Latin. I was in Latin my Sophmore and Junior years of highschool. I only got to finish Latin I & II since it just got somewhat boring, so if u think i can help then alright.

Yuna7780 11-23-2007 04:21 AM

Latin will only help you if you're a spelling bee champion or want to become a doctor, my dear. :)

JuSan 11-23-2007 09:15 PM

Yeah I took Latin I and II in highschool as well, problem is that I can't remember most of it unfortunately. But yeah I think together we can remember enough to get something.... And that is mostly true Yuna, I just like learning anything that intrigues me, hun. However, my main focus will be on learning as much Japanese as possible still.

I am in my second year of Classical Latin, it's not my favourite subject but I'm actually pretty good at translations. Anyways, what is your request exactly?

I know a thing or two, yet, my grammar is weak, so i can only help you to translate something >_<

That's just because I'm always right. ;) :mtongue:
Anyway, I'm going to need to know Latin because when I get into college I've been planning to work in the medical field.
So, hey, maybe I DON'T have to be a spelling bee champion to know Latin.

JuSan 11-24-2007 02:05 AM

No, maybe you don't... I just have a horrible habit of just remember parts of languages I like. Like in latin I remember pulchra puella (not sure on spelling) which means beautiful girl, in French I remember Se tu bon = It's all good and Que tu papa, qui je suis? = Who's your daddy, yes I am...lol. Oh and Yuna you do realize now my goal is to prove you wrong some how. Not because I'm mean, I just love a challenge.

I do tend to remember things I WANT to know. See, I want to know German, thus I'm learning it, and remembering. Same thing with Latin in my future.
Trying to prove me wrong... Hmm...

JuSan 11-24-2007 02:39 AM

Yeah I was born in Germany and spent 6 years there...My brain only brings up the numbers. Though Japanese I'm having a massivly easier time. Oh and I will get you.....It shall be my new hobby...just wait. lol

Latin grammar isn't all that complicated. It works the same way it does in German so it should be easier for you =) The ending of a word tells you its function in the sentence, then all you do is look up the word in the dicionary to get the meaning of it. I am currently studying the usage of CUM and UT. Rewriting a sentence into passive voice is easy but takes times cause each term in the structure changes its function as well as the suffix.

Do you need examples of some kind?
