Can i ask, How and why do you people do you people do that? Watching a movie in slow mo to find its faults? thats just... ...I don't think people have the right to complain about a film because it had some mistakes in it! Like for example, there was one dude i had this conversation with. He told me he was totally disappointed when in braveheart, there was a scene where william was running with a sword, and then the next second it was an axe. I was thinking to myself, wtf??? why would taht even bother you?

Some good films have been mentioned here. I forgot shawshank, butterfly effect when i mentioned those kinda films... also, for worst movies i'd have to say anything horror. I really hate horror movies, not because they scare me, but because i'm never frightened or jumpy or anything. And the stories are usually boring and rather predictable!

Yeah, DiCaprio has improved enormously since Titanic  His best movies are the ones he's starred in recently like Gangs of New York, Catch Me If You Can, The Departed, Blood Diamond, etc. These are the ones that make him a good actor, not Titanic, Romeo + Juliet or The Basketball Diaries.

I don't watch every single movie in slow-mo to find its faults, but I like reading reviews and then go back to it and analyze it from a more formal perspective. It's not like I'm going to dislike a movie cause it has a lot of mistakes, Gladiator had inaccuracies (it is -or used to be- in the Top 10 of the movies with more mistakes in them, along with Saving Private Ryan, which is one of my all time favorites) and I still enjoyed it.

I know that website... that dude i told you about sent me links to it several times...
Ok, fair enough. If you don't change your opinion about a movie because of its mistakes, then thats ok in my books. I just assumed that when you made the remark about its mistakes in the same sentence as its entertainment value, that it affected your judgment!

people have their own point of view.. like it or not, just accept it and we go with our own way.. nevertheless, lets enjoy watching movies!!

The end.
where everyone dies..BUTT NOOO- Nathan Algren (tom Cruise) LIVES. >.<
I mean, it was a really good film..until the end...and then it turns into just...TRASH. The american ALWAYS survives.

it would have been much better if he died at the end because then it would have been much less contrived and more poignant.

Yeah, I guess you're right actually. I said the same thing when I left the cinema! At least about the american thing. lol!

You're lucky. I actually went out and bought the DVD. XD Silly me.

Actually directors usually put anachronisms and such into their films on purpose. They are there for fun, not real mistakes. Most of the time anyway
As for horror movies, I must agree. Stuff like Jeepers Creepers is just crap. Sci-Fi horror is definitely good though. Stuff like Aliens and Terminator.
Then there are the disturbing movies that leave you thinking "wtf.." in a disturbed way.
If you've seen a movie called 'my little eye' it is definitely like that by the end.
The first Final Destination was also awesome when I watched it at the cinema the first time. Then it just got old lol.

koaku 01-27-2008 01:10 AM

In horror Im a big fan of Evil Dead by Sam Raimy (Spider-man 1+2+3)

Kanji_The_Wanderer 01-27-2008 02:01 AM

Hmm.....A favorite movie list eh?

Well, I don't have a favorite. I find it hard to pick just one, since I feel that I am being unfair to the other excellent movies that I enjoy.

Some off the top of my head:

Stay
2046 (Chinese movie, it's still non-Japanese XD)
Dream-catcher
Requiem For A Dream
3-Iron
Boondock Saints
Sin City
I Am Legend
SAW
Black Mask
The Matrix
Constantine

Sorry, I got carried away, this list is long enough.

Movies that I dislike:
Ultraviolet
(Can't think of anymore. ATM)

clairebear 01-27-2008 02:04 AM

I am Legend is good. Wouldnt say that its a favourite of mine though ^_^

I prefer 28 days later and 28 weeks later. :3

Some of my favourite movies...

10 things I hate about you (RIP Heath..>_<)
Dumb and dumber
Braveheart
Stand by me (I can never get enough of this movie xD)
28 days later/28 weeks later

Worst movies? Hmm...Stardust o.O...cant think of anymore.

Kanji_The_Wanderer 01-27-2008 02:10 AM

Yeah, 28 Days Later, I didn't care much for. I felt it was trying to be like a zombie movie, even though it wasn't. It was a virus that leaked out into the world. I am Legend is similar, but it is much more extreme. I guess that's why I like it more.

I never saw 28 Weeks Later. I found the first one kind of slow and boring.

EDIT: You think Stardust was a bad movie? I never saw it, it looks unique. I also want to see the Seeker, and Golden Compass.

clairebear 01-27-2008 02:12 AM

I thought 28 days later had more action in it than I am Legend..if you know what I mean >_< Hah, I thought IAL was kind of slow, but its still a good movie. ^_^

Oh, Golden Compass, I forgot about that. I went to the cinema to see that a while ago, its pretty good. My dad dragged me to the cinema to see it, and I had no idea what it was about so I wasnt expecting it to be very good xD And yeah, I guess Stardust just isnt my kinda movie

koaku 01-27-2008 02:15 AM

If both of you like the 28 later... there are a great movie out soon ewww
Scotland 2033

Kanji_The_Wanderer 01-27-2008 02:16 AM

I see your point. For me, action doesn't make a movie. (Not saying that it does for you.) It's the plots, the story depth, and how much it makes you think, and sit there in awe.

Most of my favorite movies aren't adrenaline pumping action. As long as I can use my brain to think, and work to understand what the director was trying to accomplish, then I find the experience more enjoyable. IAL was about survival, and trying to find a new future. Almost the same with 28DL it's not about the action. ^_~

EDIT: Thanx for the inside scoop on Stardust and Golden Compass.

noodle 01-27-2008 11:27 AM

I actually really liked Stardust! I though it was one of the first films in that area that actually done a good job. It included comedy in a subtle way that was great and the actors performed amazingly. It was like theatre acting, but in a movie which was nice!

koaku 01-27-2008 11:34 AM

I watched stardust yesterday and...its not the worst but ...i'll call that a " Sunday_Movie" The end is great (the fight with the Witch) and Robert De Niro can do better lol

Yea I forgot all about The Boondock Saints. I love that movie too.
As for The Seeker, it seems very Harry Potter-esque to me. Also I got goosebumps cos I thought it was a movie to do with some books I really love.
It isn't though

hypekstatic 01-28-2008 09:09 AM

well i can name PLENTY of bad american movies.....
but one movie that was a major dissapointment to me was probably
The Village. I expected much more for an M. Night Shyamalan movie...
but oh my god... so boring.

ante 01-28-2008 10:15 AM

This is a difficult one. I could probably make to endless lists, espically when it comes to bad movies.

Some good ones are

Lawrence of Arabia
It's a Wonderful Life
12 Angry Men
2001: A Space Odyssey
Fanny och Alexander
Smultronstället
Stalker
Psycho

That's just of the top of my head, I could probably make a list 4-5 times as long if i tried. I tend to forget the bad movies, however a really poor movie that I saw recently was 30 Days of Night.

Surely this thread won't be moved to the "Japanese Movies" section :mtongue:

I personally have a lot of best movies. Stuff like Requiem for a Dream, Eternal Sunshine, Rocky, Terminator 2 etc.

My worst have got to be Zoolander (crappest comedy of all time) and almost any Bollywood movie lol.

ps. sorry for misspelling Japanese in the name of the thread -_-'

OMG!!! how can you not like Zoolander!!! It's hilarious!!!
really stupid but still very funny!!!

umm I love Superstar as well... kinda like a female version of napoleon dynamite cept it contains a much younger.. much blonder Will ferrell.
ah man it's hard thinking of my favourite NON-Japanese movies. :(

Well anyway,
My least fav movies... any of those overrated family flicks... like ones about kids finding magical creature pet things... it\'s just soooo lame! Even as a little kiddy i HATED those kinds of movies!!! Especially when i was like ummm three and that movie about, ummm... i think it was 2 girls who find faries in some random garden place.. meh i dont remember I turned it off after the first 20 mins. SOOOO BORING!! I HATE THAT MOVIE SOOOO MUCH!!!
GAH!

*leaves to go find and burn every copy of that fairy movie*
