Fanfiction Love it or hate it?

Okay, what I want to know is if you like fanfction or hate it. Even if you don't know what fanfiction is, just ask. xp

Acidreptile 08-13-2008 05:54 PM

I don't care about it.If people want to make fanfictions is alright.

allie2590 08-13-2008 05:54 PM

It really depends on the fanfiction. If it's very poorly written, then I won't like it. I also don't like fanfiction that changes the characters. If the characters have been changed too much, then the author should've just made their own characters.

ThirdSight 08-13-2008 05:58 PM

*Note: Following reply coming from a writer.*

Fanfiction is a great way to practice writing, and a great freewriting tool.

But you didn't make the characters.
And you didn't make the universe they reside in.
And you didn't change names of characters, or add any other ones.
And even if other ones are added, it doesn't flow cohesively with the remaining characters/universe.

It's like trying to force your own puzzle piece into a puzzle that's not only already complete, but perfect in and of itself.

I personaly don't think that fanfiction should be published anywhere, but I'm highly uneducated in the fields of publication, so I'll plead the 5th on that part.

Even still, I can't consider fanfiction actual writing, nor those that write fanfiction actual writers.

/endrant (Good God, I'm gonna' get railed for this, I can feel it.)

Kandierain15 08-13-2008 05:58 PM

Do you like how people will make the genders change? Or if yhey make them gay?

Kandierain15 08-13-2008 06:00 PM

That's true. it's not there's to mess with...but if it make's poeple happy to di, I'm all good. ^^

ThirdSight 08-13-2008 06:05 PM

Oh yeah. While not a fan of fanfiction itself, I could care less about it being written. If it makes people happy to do it, let them eat cake (or something like that).

But when fanfiction writers think they're actual writers, that's when I swoop in with a pen and black pieces of paper and ask them to come up with something on their own.

iTwisted 08-13-2008 10:07 PM

As long as you don't change a characters personality
it's ok by me. And not the world they live in either.
And I hate when people add strange things like Mpreg XD
Or like weird stuff like the narutoverse being invaded by a
vampire virus XD
It just becomes... bad..

Changing sexuality can be Ok though ^^ if you write it so
that it would seem natural. Like it could happen.

Teesama 08-13-2008 10:19 PM

Sexuality, experimenting is aaalright.
But MPreg...come on ._. just because you're twelve and you love babies but you can't stand women don't make the characters go preg.

I enjoy writing fanfictions but I also enjoy writing regular stories from my own imagination. Heck, my english teacher gave us a random promt of what would you do if you won a million dollars and it had to be 100 words or more...finished it in like 30min and over 300words. SHe gave me a look like I was crazy haha...
at the moment I'm readin an inuyasha fanfic on fanfiction.net its called The Phoenix Blade: Time Lapse...I usually wouldn't enjoy how it is written but I'm mainly just readin it to see if I can finish te story. [700,000+ words and 86 chapters. Longest story I have attempted to read yet]

MistressMuffinYumYum 08-13-2008 10:23 PM

I hate fan fiction. It's violation of the original plot and character.:chikasfrown:

But but btu, it makes characters that should be together together because the author didn't....though there tends to be a lot of kikyo bashin in inuyasha fics. I hate it when people bash other characters. Thats my only pet peeve

ante 08-13-2008 10:28 PM

Don't really care either way, it's not something I frequently read.

Cechtrun 08-13-2008 11:02 PM

I really love it and read at least three times per week some stories... sometimes I also spend hours in front of the pc, staring at millions of letters and reading til my eyes are hurting so much, that I just can't go on..(°A°)""
One can say, I'm a little addicted to some sort of stories *whistle* :p

jdragon 08-13-2008 11:22 PM

I used to hear about fanfics but I didn't have any inclination to read them...
then one day I read one & I didn't know what to think...I was weirded out at first...then I read another one & another...& decided I liked them!^^

ThirdSight 08-13-2008 11:53 PM

Alongside my original points, I usually don't read fanfiction because it's not written in a very interesting way.

Just some additional two cents.

Imo, it depends very on the writer if it is written in an intresting way or not.. I know at least a dozen writers who have an extraordinary good writing style and are able to make the fictions marvelous

Usually either Inuyasha or some random manga that had caught my interest but didn't want to find out what happened. There are tons of spoilers in fanfictions haha...
though scarily, I've actually taking a likin to fluffy kagome pairing DX its horrible, I know. XD but I guess I'll survive

Sure, there are tons of spoilers... but they're necessary..for example in Harry Potter stories (--> when it plays after the 5th book, one should know what happened in the books before)

and genre?

horrible? well it depends on kagomes partner.. XD

I like all different types of genre [such a weird word] and I've read some pretty good kagXsess pairings but I'd much rather read inuXkag like I'm reading at the moment.

I love spoilers, especially when I get to write, warning::spoiler alert in my fics.

LoneStar 08-17-2008 12:17 AM

I love it!.
But thats because I write a LOT! or fanfiction.
its what keeps me sane *Sigh*

jazzfreakme 08-17-2008 02:09 AM

MMhmm, It depends on the writer. If it's a good writer who can make the story interesting and keep me on my toes then yes I like it. Other wise nope.

LoneStar 08-20-2008 07:19 PM

Naruto
Death Note
Bleach
Fruits Basket
Full Metal Alchemist
Inuyasha
Ouran High School Host Club
Kingdom Hearts

and other Fantasy stories.

Salvanas 08-20-2008 07:23 PM

It's fine.

Aslong as they keep Harry Pottard fan fiction away from the other stuff it's fine. Harry Pottard + Final Fantasy fan fiction authors need to be shot.

ujifujimoto 08-20-2008 10:20 PM

i never had the patience for fanfiction but i was into doujinshi and amatuer CG

Kiyuge 08-20-2008 10:50 PM

CarleyGee 08-20-2008 11:01 PM

I read one not knowing it was fanfiction, and I was completely confused, but it was very well written! After a few chapters (online) I was like..wait...

LittleFallenAngel 08-20-2008 11:09 PM

I love fanfictions,I also write them myself though.
and ofcourse I also read them.
Most of them are really nice written.

CrazyLee 09-18-2008 12:49 PM

Depends on the series, and also whether the authors any good. I'll read anything, as long as it can hold my attention for longer than 5 mins....

Kandierain15 09-18-2008 01:39 PM
