Computer Questions

I've already got my problem solved by somebody, but I always have computer troubles.

I think this thread can be used to ask computer questions and anybody is free to respond and assist that person.

I know I'll be posting here often... ;)

Question-- are you using Internet Explorer? The problem might fix itself if you just use Firefox. (that's what my BF said to tell you >.<)

Just get your own PC/laptop and you won't have to worry about your brother watching porn on the same PC you use.

Thank you for the reply. I was talking with another JF member a moment ago and he fixed my problem. He told me to get FireFox, which I'm going to download tonight, but Active X wouldn't allow me to download it for some reason. I have Internet Explorer, but now I'm going to use FireFox.

Okay that's good. ^.^

Firefox is better than Internet Explorer is so many ways, it would take days to list everything, whether it be technical comparisons or obvious ones.

I have a question: Every time I try to restart or shut down my laptop a screen comes up saying "Installing updates 1 of 1" and it just stays that way for hours. I normally just unplug it and let it die, then it starts up normal again. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?

I'm guessing this happens during the shutdown process right, when it shows the blue screen and "Window is shutting down" or whatever? After you log out, windows updates itself before shutting off...but that's weird that it just freezes. Only 1 update too, should be super fast o_o. Might wanna get that checked out if the problem persists. That's good that it's not preventing your computer from starting up normally though.

I have a new computer trouble. I'm not sure what to do and I've already tried to do something... But whenever I print something from my printer, it prints everything like a mirror.

I have an HP Officejet J5780 All-in-One printer and I'm going to further look into this.

Prints like a mirror? I don't quite understand what you mean. You mean everything comes out mirrored? Flipped?

Yeah. It's really weird. If you look on the backside and put the paper up to a light, you can read it just fine.

try doing a "windows update" and install all necessary security files. And then try doing a virus scan :vsign:

need help getting flash to work

I'm trying to be able to watch videos on youtube. I used to be able to, but for some reason now I get the message that I need to download flash, and it gives me a link to the adobe site.

But after downloading and installing it, each time I try to watch a video on youtube, my browser crashes.

Aniki 11-29-2008 05:44 PM

Let me guess. You have Vista?

Miyavifan 11-29-2008 05:47 PM

Windows 98, actually.

Aniki 11-29-2008 06:23 PM

Ah yes, good ol' Windows 98 (The best Windows OS in my opinion).
Oh, and I think you've just solved your own problem. I'm guessing that the new Flash Player you've downloaded is only compatible with XP and Vista and that's why the browser crashes every time you want to watch a video. Try reinstalling the previous Flash Player version.

Also, what Flash Player version you have installed now?

PS: Yuna7780 made a thread - Computer Questions, where everyone can post their computer problems. So if you don't mind could you move your thread there.

Miyavifan 11-29-2008 06:27 PM

Maybe version 9 isn't compatable with Windows 98?

Miyavifan 11-29-2008 06:58 PM

It's supposed to be.

Aniki 11-29-2008 07:00 PM

Wel,l version 9 is the last one that works with Windows 98.
Ok then. First what you gotta do is delete all temporary files and cookies, and check again, sometimes it helps. If that won't help, then try installing the previous 8 version (here's a link).

Miyavifan 11-29-2008 07:16 PM

what about jscript script files? can they be deleted?

Aniki 11-29-2008 07:38 PM

Yes they can be deleted, but I don't see a reason why you should delete Javascript or any of it's files. Just delete temporary files and cookies and don't temper with other files. I hope your not deleting them manually.

Miyavifan 11-29-2008 07:51 PM

I know of no other way, as my comp is stupid, and doesn't work properly.

Aniki 11-29-2008 08:04 PM

Well did you try using the simple method like: open the Internet Explorer, find and click on Tools in the menu bar, then find Internet options and click on it. There you should see the delete cookies and delete files options, just click on those two and you're done. This is all I wanted you to do.
After that, reopen Internet Explorer, go to Youtube and check if you can watch any videos.
