I dunno about empowering but I listened to music that 'recognised the pain'.

In that respect, I think Smashing Pumpkins - Adore, is one of the most depressing albums ever. Its quite easy to relate to it on a lot of levels if you were ever in the same boat as Billy Corgan was. :D

Other than that, 'Gothic Metal' (or whatever u wanna call it) like Lacuna Coil, are also pretty good to me in the types of music to listen to. The lyrics might not be exactly what you always want but the music is nice and dark.

NanteNa, which type of "cutters" are you referring to? Many are doing itis specificaly for the scarification ( I know a few professionals in this field this line) and the majority of self-mutilation from depression is done for the intensity of the pain to which serves as a mental focusing sensation.

As for tattoos and piercing, even in the S&M community, its rarely done for the pain involved with getting either of them, though some truly enjoy that too. However the piercing is sometime done as a means for inflicting pain later. But NanteNa is right, the vast majority of piercings these days is purely for decorative reasons.

Just a clarification, please. When referring to sefl-inflicted pain, are we referring only to that which comes from mutilation, or other forms?

Harming himself is exactly and obviously what he does - it's wrong to some extend, but just like you and me he's an individual and he's his own boss as long as he stays within the words of law. As so many others mentioned already, Rei didn't try to attack Kyo. She used him as an example since most of us here on JF have already seen him and can therefore relate to what she means. It's not personal.
And to you Miyavifan, if you cannot stay impartial just because it's about Kyo, you should be old enough to stay out of the convo.

i'm just wanna clear all this for myself, i am not here to bag shit on Kyo, i just thought this issue could be something people might find interesting, and from what i know, there's a lot of teens in this forum, who may be doing shit like this or did it or whatever, or there maybe some adults who've done things like this and wanna give their opinion on it.

anyway. i dont think piercings and tattoos are included, but then again, there are people who go and get tatts and piercings because of the pain O_o

Not to start anything, but it's stuff like calling people a retard that make them cut...well, depending on hwo they are. I take people using retard to heart because my niece is mentally retarded and it's just careless mistakes that can make someone start.

But either way...some people cut to feel alive/see the blood/ect...others do it for attention.

I don't get why a big discussion should be started on something that doesn't involve themselves. It's their bodies, if they want to waste it, let them...and sometimes, all they need is someone to show them that they ARE worth something...
