Shibuya Crossing

Hi!
For those of you who don't know, there is going to be a Shibuya style crossing in London's Oxford Street!

What's your opinions on it?

I think it'll be great! It is a terrible junction and can be very very busy!

"Shibuya" crossing is very usual and is called as "Scramble Crossing" in Japan. Even around my local satation, we have some small Scramble crossings.

However, road and pavement design in London is much defferent from Japanese, I'm afraid another kind of confusion might happen.

When I had been in London for some weeks, I was impressed with the difference of design concept of the road. Road and pavement in london is much protective for people from vihcles while people in Tokyo are exposed to dangerous of the car traffic.

Shibuya style crossing itself is a nice system. However, I don't know what will happen in London. I can be much better than expected and could be little bit worse.

Thanks for your opinion!
Oxford street is a place I regularly visit and at peak times, it is a nightmare. There is no sort of organization or system to help people to get to where they want to go.

Seeing how successful the crossing is in Japan, it may help us out here. :)
A story about it was recently on the news saying that work had started on the crossing.
During the report, members of the public were interviewed all were happy for the new crossing to be made.

Who knows, it may work. At least they're doing something to help ease the congestion :)

It was on BBC London news, I think a few days before my thread post. It was the first time I heard of the plans too! They're saying it'll be finished by October/November this year.

I'm intrigued to see if this would work for London...
