Baka has $50 towards Learning Japanese
I want about $50 worth of Japanese books and material. What can I get for the best bang for my buck online?
I want 1. Material in both kanji and furigana 2. Anime/Manga/Gaming/Japanese Culture Related 3. Newspapers/Magazines/Books/Articles 4. AT LEAST 20 different items to keep me going for my whole 2010 Also, can I buy bulk orders? like 20 books that NO ONE in japan uses but i'd sure as hell would read? thanks |
If you think you'll obtain 20 different sources for $50 (outside free websites), I think you're underestimating the prices of the materials.
White Rabbit Press and TheJapanShop.com should give you a rough idea how much a physical source costs. |
Well, I find it odd that we can buy american books on amazon for .01 cents but just for the most basic japanese book its at least 5 bucks

Supply and demand sir. The demand for Japanese and Japanese learning material is not exactly a domineering market.

...I dont want japanese learning material in the sense of a " Genki or Heiseig" book. I dont need that crap.
I want the goods. A Japanese Newspaper is more effective than any english to japanese book you can get your hands on. |
have you lookedin,
your local library? mine has learn japanese books in them,(for all the worth they are!) or just Dlow rossetta stone for free ;) better yet, just go there and learn fast :p |
I swear I should never come to the internet if I have a question ever again....
I Do Not Want Any God Damn " LEarn how to learn japanese " Material. I want newspapers/magazines and BOOOOOOOOOOOOKKSSSS in Japanese about Japanese shit. |
you'd be lucky to find more than 2 things for $50 dollars. The Kanji flash cards i bought were about $38. worth the money though
|
You realize that you first need to KNOW Japanese to read a Japanese magazine or newspaper? Being able to read a newspaper is kind of the unofficial marker that you're fluent in Japanese. Anyone with less than an upper-intermediate/lower-advanced knowledge of Japanese could stare at a magazine or newspaper for hours on end and not be able to learn a thing.
And like Nathan said, you're underestimating the cost of things. If you're importing materials from Japan, you'll be lucky to get 5 items for $50. But there IS one thing I can think of that might be along your lines - Hiragana Times - Friends Finding, Travel and Living in Japan It's a Japanese magazine aimed at people who are learning Japanese - it has articles about Japanese topics, written in simple Japanese. Other than that, I can't think of much else aside from children's books. |
