What is the origin of Japanese surnames?
 
i remember reading that most surnames originated after the Meiji Restoration because only Samurais had surnames but can't find it (i think it was one of Wiki article)

Japanese surnames
 
I have read the same thing. Only Samurai had surnames. Commoners did not
