Virginity in Japan
I'm a 24 year old virgin. Never even kissed. Here in Norway, this is in no way normal. But what about Japan, would it be normal if someone, including women, were an unkissed virgin at way past 20?
If you know anything about how it is in China, Korea, or any other SE country feel free to give your input. |
Hi, I'm only 19 but same problem here xD In Germany it isn't normal, many have at least kissed some1 of the opposite gender :/ But I'm not sure wether it's normal in Japan or not  But I know there is a street, in Tokyo I think, where girls and young women walk through and boys are standing at the side and watch them, if they like a women they talk to her and maybe date her, just as a little excursus ;)

I wouldn't say that it's normal but I don't think it's uncommon, especially for men.
Men are expected to conform to the regular routine of getting into a good university, getting a good job, etc. Some of them take it so seriously that they end up lacking the social skills to interact with the opposite sex. Especially in a place like Tokyo where everyone seems to live their life with a pair of blinders. One of my friends was a hostess and she mentioned that many of her clients were men who were actually afraid of talking to women and resorted to hostess clubs since they were much more accommodating. |

I would not say it is strange, but I would imagine most socially adjusted Japanese have had their first sexual experience by the time they leave college, or probably soon after. |

It's definitely normal in India (South India) - because of the close family ties, the fact you live with your family until marriage, most everyone waits until marriage. Even if they go off to college, many never-been-kissed virgins past 20 are normal.

Generally, if one is "lucky" enough she will meet her husband-to-be and fall in love with him in college, then get married within a few years if everything goes smooth. In conclusion, a 24-year-old virgin not even have kisses before may be considered uncommon. However, everyone has his/her own fate. I am sure there are many girls like you everywhere. I would say it's uncommon but it's absolutely not abnormal. |

I couldn't say for sure but i believe in Japan it is uncommon just as it is in western countries.
The only places that have different views on this matter tend to be countries such as India (as mentioned) and Arabic countries. In a lot of those countries people don't even move away from parents, and often build their house on top of their parents. They often still lvie with parents even when married and so the culture is very different. But i think the rest of the world is pretty much the same. In all honesty, i think it is good to experiment sexually before settling down...however i also think that it has gone WAY too far. I can only speak for the UK really but STI's, Teenage pregnancy are so high here. People are pretty much expected to sleep with different people all of the time in most social groups. It's certainly not worth worrying about. |

It is uncommon but personally I dont find it weird. Alot of women who are still virgins and never been kissed are probably just saving themselves for someone who they can love freely.
No one should be ashamed to still be a never-been-kissed virgin. :ywave: Im 16 and I dont plan on losing my virginity till I know Im ready! :D |
According to a survey @( all secondary schools from Portugal) - about 90% of the students at least kissed someone once. (Age range 13~20)
Survey (In portuguese): http://www.cfpa.pt/cfppa/pes/questionarios.pdf I don't have the source for all the results. It was on my Sec.Sch. consulting board. |

Well it's better than getting pregnant with a partner who bails out on you. Take your time and find someone who you love with all of your heart, I'm sure you'll have a strong bond with them through your love rather than lust, which, again is the result of jumping into love too quickly.
So go you!! :vsign: |
