So here it is, what do you think about guys with makeup.
And when I do not mean make up on special occasions, but make up on a daily or frequent bases.

Expand your imagination and express your thoughts please.

I don't even like makeup on women (my wife never uses any) so you could imagine what I think about men who use it!

I think it's really gay to wear makeup. Only jrockers do it properly, and that's because they're artists.

Columbine 07-14-2010 12:04 PM

What kind of make-up? Because the only guys I know who wear make up daily work in media and it's a routine part of their job. Doesn't make them seem weird even remotely.

Thinking back to high school, the guys who wore makeup (if ever) during the day were all the mad artistic sorts; sexuality completely aside. A few of the gay kids might slick on a bit for a night out, but that falls under 'special occasions' to me.

Does it bother me? Not really, although I probably wouldn't suit dating a guy with more cosmetics in his handbag than me.

Tsuwabuki 07-14-2010 02:22 PM

There is no room for gender discrimination on any level. That covers even the "trivial." If a guy wants to wear make up, good for him. I applaud his willingness to stand up to sexism in all its forms; not just when it's directed at women.

Shizu 07-14-2010 02:54 PM

It doesn't bother me, everybody's own decisions, he /she wants to wear makeup or not.
Actually I don't really like, when I don't see a face because of the so many layers of makeup. And I wrote this because here where I live I see so many women who wear a ton layers of makeup >_>.....
Makeup on men doesn't bother me, until it makes the face better, not worse...

Btw, I don't understand that, many European men thinks, makeup on men is disgusting and they looks like gays....
But.... I laughed at them. European men wore strong makeup for centuries, maybe their own ancestors too.. that means their ancestors was a gay? xD
For centuries both gender wore makeup, and for some reason, once they decided they don't wear it.

In western countries, so many of the men thinks hair on their face and body, ugly and aggressive words makes a man... I think, that's only disgusting. xD
In my opinion, a true man can be a man in laces and ruffles with makeup. :P

....so....If ya were dressed up in laces and ruffles wit some make up, than you would turn into gay and would have a crush on men??....just because you are wearing laces and ruffles and make up.

O.O'''' WTF

O.O'''' WTF

I think he was going for more of a "for what reason would any straight male wear laces and ruffles?" (Aside from acting, I guess).

It's an anachronistic style nowadays.

I know I know XDD I was just kidding....^^ no one would turn into gay just because of a dress or some makeup....and that's the point!!

But I can't understand, why shouldn't we accept, that some of the males do like to wear different styles in clothing and some of them do use make up....

I think its not in connection wit sexual orientation....they just love to be like that....and its not gay....it's called metrosexual.( don't mean they are attracted by men, it only means that they are sensitive about their own appearance)

And....it has been prooved yet (not just ones, by scientists) that women are attracted more by the men with feamale features....

manganimefan227 07-14-2010 05:34 PM

XD Ah, it's a personal identity thing, let them if they want! it may seem freaky at first . .

I also care about my appearance, but I ain't metrosexual. I laugh my ass off at all the different made up sexualities. Pansexual wtf is that, it's the exact same thing as bisexual. I honestly think metrosexual is just made up to justify closet homosexuals..=S

not really, for example, I have a friend, and for the first time I saw him with makeup. It wasn't freaky, but he was beautiful, more than any girl next to him.
I only saw him once without makeup. That was strange xD

People can be really different, in appearance and in sexuality too.
If you say, there are only hetero, homo and bi, that's a bit like, "I think the word is black and white"

I am really surprise this thread is still open. When I made a thread similar to this one 2 years ago, it was closed for the heated arguements it cause.
It seems like this thread is going toward heated discussion.

@Winli
I seen other guys beside Jrockers that look fine with makeup.

I just have a personal aversion to anyone who appears to spend much time on how they look, be they male or female. Be it right or wrong I believe those that are a little obsessed with their physical appearance must have some sort of emotional issues they are trying to cover up. One of things that attracted me to my wife was that she never wears any makeup at all. Nor does she care less about fashion. I'm attracted to people who have the confidence in themselves that they have no need to cover their faces with crap and shroud themselves in labels or a distintive look. For me it matters not if you're male or female if it takes more than about 15mins to have a shower and get dressed to go out then there's something wrong with you. As I say completely personal opinion and I know that most don't think this way especially on this forum where so many appear to like to dress up :vsign:

i agree to a certain extent, but at the same time i am taking a totally opposite side. each person has different preferences and that our preferences only increases because we are bombarded by social influences and competitions. it is only natural to make oneself more competitive, only if this invisible wall does not exist we can drop this believe, but as long as human interacts with each other, competitions and making oneself appeal to others will not cease to exist. Sometimes confidence is not something one can assure of, even if one is confidence, that confidence may easily be overwhelmed and destroyed. For it is others approval that will ultimately give confidence. What i just said could also be argued wrong depending on how deep and how isolated we want to take this sole concept to, but as of what reality is, this is my thought.

GoNative 07-16-2010 06:44 AM

i think you summed it up pretty well. Even my aversion to fashion and and being overly concerned with how you look is a fashion statement in it's own way. My wife and I would barely spend more than a couple of days worth of our wages each year on clothing and beauty products. It is kind of liberating actually to not concern yourself with fashion or looks, just to buy things for their funtionality rather than fashion statement. It releases you from the pressures of having to try and compete with others and be led by marketing to make you buy, buy, buy. Of course economies would fall if all people were like me!

thats why i agree with you, but just that we have different point of views. cheers.

I say go ahead and wear it since people will always have their assumption(s) regardless of what you do make-up or not

I know for people like us is not serious, but there are people who take everything serious. :p
True makeup is not going to suit every guy. Some guys wear a little bit too much.

People who don't know anything about visual kei who see their pictures called them gay too. I guess any guy that wears makeup will be label as gay which ridiculous.

The are other people beside jrockers who look well with makeup.
In the K-pop scene there are guys who wear makeup and look absolutely great with it.

either they have too low of a testosterone level or they live their lives by the music they listen to which, in this case, im guessing would be all these new "gender bender", "emo" and "aggro metal" poets in the mainstream music industry.
theyre just a bunch of leper minstrels and they shouldnt take their advice. im a musician and i know what good music is. those bands are nothing but poets, dancers and magicians (pyrotechnics). why is it they end up selling their own brand of clothing or musical instruments when they lose popularity? because they know more about fashion and the instruments rather than MUSIC ITSELF.

Of course, because you know everything about them....
so you mean, because they take care of their appearance, they know nothing about music.... maybe you never saw them during they played on their instrument or sang a song....
you mean, if you know everything about the music and the instruments, that's why you don't need to take care of yourself, you can miss shaving, combing, even taking a shower????

I didn't want to be that harsh, but I'm fed up with the chauvinist thinking....

ayumiyuu 07-17-2010 05:08 PM

oh my my..Shizu is angry..^^

I just wanted to present some links....if someone is interested in it..

WARNING!!

In the following videos the guys are wearing makeup. THey are all musicians (yeah...j-rockers..so now you can throw that shit on me..come on do it!! i don't care)
..and of course, just because they are wearing attractive clothes, even girlish clothes sometimes( oh my god) and use make up, that definitly mean they can't sing..they've never ever seen a guitar..and they don't even know what a drum is....yah, coz they wear makeup, they music is trash..voice is shit and they are stupid idiots of course....

but....i think there are some people in the world who would give everything away, just to be able to play that fvckin' guitar like Hizaki, Teru, MYV, Ruiza etc.. or sing like Asagi, or play the drums like Hiroki....
( and they all use make up of course)

some Hizaki solo: ( in live he was even more fantastic)
YouTube - Versailles - HIZAKI Guitar Solo Medley(CHATEAU DE VERSAILLES)

Hiroki live drum solo: ( slow start amazing continuation)
YouTube - Last Indies Tour 2008 Follow me [Part 10]

MYV: ( yah..he wanted to be a soccer player....thank God he ended up beside the guitar instead..and he is much more amazing in live too)

YouTube - Selfish love [PV]

Asagi live( no playback....it's worth to listen carefully from the 4:00 of the video..a man who sings whatever he wants..)
YouTube - D - Yami yori kurai... (LIVE) Tafel Anatomie 2006 Tour Final

I don't want to offend anyone....especially nor KorisBlue, but please....don't take everything under one roof....Thank you.^^

KungMartin 07-17-2010 06:51 PM

Honestly don't rly see ur point. Who told u if u wear make up u automatically suck at making music?=S

J-rockers are the only dudes who should be allowed to wear make up, because it's just soo gay to wear it otherwise

ayumiyuu 07-17-2010 07:09 PM

....ahh please....

if ya want to pop in please read above....

and I'm really glad that you're soo generous, and let them (only them) wear make up....yeah I know your oppinion already..MAKE UP IZ GAY..don't repeat yourself all the time..

KungMartin 07-19-2010 08:56 AM

Ok good so I made my point=D

Makeup gay gya gay sooo gayy

JayT 07-19-2010 09:44 AM

How about who really cares what someone else is doing?
If someone wants to wear make up then good for them,
it's no one elses f*cking problem.

It bugs the sh*t out of me when people do what makes them feel comfortable and people throw the gay card at them. Serious? Being gay is wanting to have intercourse with men. Not wearing makeup, or wearing tight clothes or whatever else people these days think is 'Gay'.

So what's the point of arguing about it?
It's not you, it's not your body and it's not your reputation, so why care ?
