traveling to japan
 

Any one got good advice, my partner and I going to Tokyo in 2 week and we are not sure what to do.

also, i will travel to japan with my friend next saturday

and will go to MORIOKA in IWATE Pref.

what can we do ?

If I were in similar situation, I would post-pone the trip. To me it isn't about my safety of going there, it's about considering the country's situation and not wanting to additionally burden them right during this time. It's just what I would do; change the tickets to a different date much later.

Too early to tell.... I would plan for other places in case the area is not "recommended".... I'm sure transport will be disrupted for a while....

Like others have said it's too soon to tell. The UK government site says that some flights to Narita have begun again, but there is no public transport to and from the airport. There is also still a risk of tsunamis and aftershocks. Whether this will still be the case in a fortnight is yet to be seen, but I would personally contact your travel agent (or whoever you booked your holiday with) and see what they say.

I would advise you not to come here within next year.

This is not true at all even though I'm not saying people should postpone their trips or go as planned.

Sorry, you're right. I just went back on the website, which has been updated it seems since I was on it only a few hours back, and it seems there is public transport. It says 'some' though, and that disruptions are heavy, but I imagine that's to be expected given the awful circumstances of the moment.

These prefectures (Iwate, Miyagi, Aomori, Fukushima,etc.) are going to need lots of economic help in the years to come. As a tourist, I will be visiting those areas when I go back in Nov. 2012. I will make an effort to visit many places and spend money where I can. That's one way we can help these people who have had their lives and livelihood disrupted. I wish they would accept tips, but they don't....

They don't? What do you mean? They just don't want any tip at all?

It is not customary for tips to be accepted for services rendered. There is no tipping at the restaurants, bars, taxis, etc. Some gratuities are included in the price.

It would be nice, though, to be able to hand over a 5000yen bill for a 3000yen meal and leave a good tip. I would do that. Sadly, that's not considered normal behavior.

Mhh. What happens if you do it anyway? ._. They feel insulted or does that just makes you looks like a fool? Because if it's just the second option, you don't really mind their opinion about you and help em anyway : p

I agree. Unless you are going specifically as part of an organized relief effort, please stay clear of affected areas.

This is the worst thing wich could happen to Japan. The country is just to civilized for such an incident. Why did they not shut down 50 year old Nuclear Plants? I even heard that they had many more problems with particular the one in Fukushima?!
