I like Japan so much that I don't want people coming here with false ideas and high expectations then going back home all disappointed and being like "it was ok I guess... " ;)

I wouldn't fret. None of these kids will be able to make a life in Japan. They'll grow up and do whatever introverted kids do. If as many kids made it to Japan as they wanted, Japan wouldn't be as exclusive as it currently is.

When I first got to Japan I found out I was going to have to live with a bunch of other foreigners for a bit. I wasn't upset that I had to live with other foreigners; I was just afraid they'd all be weeaboos. Truthfully, only about 10 percent of them were. The rest of us were shocked and left scratching our heads, because all of us had imagined the same thing before coming to Japan. Then we finally realized, the reason why none of us were weeaboos is because we don't live in fantasy land and actually got our sh!t together to be able to move to Japan.

How long have you lived in Japan?

Some of us who've lived in Japan for many years just try and bring a little reality into the weeaboo world. Hell I didn't even know such people existed until coming onto this forum! It's not being negative or anti-Japan it's just trying to let people know what it's really like here. If this bursts some peoples little bubble about the perfect little world they've created in their minds well maybe that's not such a bad thing. Dreams are nice but it's better to know the reality don't you think?

This is fair enough, but I don't think all the people who posted were 'weeaboos', and this is what the topic descended into . . . "you're a weeaboo", 'no, you're a weeaboo!'.

The topic was quite postive, and sure, not everyone is realistic and not everyone will acheive their dreams, but surely it's possible to be more constructive in criticism than what some people have done? Even if one or two deserve such harsh comments, it detracts from the overall topic and ends up rather off-topic. One or two people kept on-topic, but their comemnts seemed completely wiped out by the 'no, you're a weeaboo'. In that respect it is kind of a bad thing to be so negative.

The original post from dogsbody was actually in jest because of how many people fit the weeaboo mold here.

I don't live in Japan, in fact I have never visited it yet, I'm planning too but that might take a couple of years because it's expensive, and I'm not planning on moving either.

Well I think that most "Weeaboos" are just children, probably not older than 16 who can still fantasize about all kinds of things. I see this in my religion too, I'm a witch and most teens who are interested in witchcraft think that you can really use spells and the most common question I get is how to make someone in love with you... typical childish thoughts and most people grow out of them. If they don't then they just have to learn it the hard way, because it won't make any difference if you tell them they are living in a fantasy... Just have to be a bit realistic.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. It's sometimes hard to get tone of voice and sarcasm online, I had assumed the thread was one of seriousness as opposed to jest.

I don't know much about the weeaboo world. I've never actually met a person like that. Don't think such people even existed when I was younger. I've only got some insight into their world through this forum. It's a world generally based entirely on ignorance from what I've seen. I think dreams are great. I fulfilled numerous dreams in moving to Japan. I just think those dreams should be based on some form of reality if they are ever to be realised.

not jesting at all. very curious. for many it must be a pipe dream and fantasy but sorting out reality from fantasy?

To be honest, i didn't know the meaning of Weeaboos until recently. Though, most people I saw (not just this forum) and talked to, who fantasized about Japan are well over 16, some are in the mid 20s. They all share one common background: Growing up with manga, anime, video games, toys and other form of "Entertainment" from Japan. A lot of them based their knowledge of Japan on these exposure without exploring further in to the country, its history, language, people etc etc, their view are trapped by a fabricated world that these media present.

It wasn't too long ago when I replied to a thread on this forum, an adult martial artist who want to go to Japan to train for a year. Sounds good? Until he said he want to find the "real master" that live and train deep in the mountain woods.... This person, sound sane and all, and is an adult....

I have a Friend (Irish dude), my age - mid 30s, who once told me that he want to visit Japan with me because "Japan seems so cool with its robot and sh!t", up to this day, we still make fun of him for that comment, and he admitted he wasn't joking, he seriously thought that Japan has Gundam size robot that does "crap"
